Ant-Man And The Wasp Franchise Star Confirms MCU Return In Avengers: Doomsday

The Avengers: Doomsday cast just added another familiar face to its cast, with a lead star from Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania set to reunite with Paul Rudd's Scott Lang/Ant-Man.

Marvel Studios debuted the first Avengers: Doomsday trailer at CinemaCon yesterday evening, and there were immediately reports from Las Vegas that the sneak peek featured Kathryn Newton's Cassie Lang.

The Ready or Not 2: Here I Come star herself has now confirmed her MCU return in the upcoming Avengers movie with a fun post shared with her 165,000 followers on X and 1.9 million followers on Instagram.

Should we expect other actors with a similarly large social media presence to make announcements like this in the coming months? It would be an effective marketing tool, but with Disney gutting that department after laying off over 1000 people, it's hard to say what the plan is.

In the video, an excited Newton unboxes her own director's chair after being left out of last March's lengthy cast reveal. It's suitably pint-sized, given that her character is part of the Ant-Man family.

Interestingly, the location the actress is in looks a lot like the forest from Thor's teaser trailer. Could those be Latverian woodlands?

Newton first played Cassie in 2023's Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania, where she took over the role from Abby Ryder Fortson (Ant-Man, Ant-Man and The Wasp) and Emma Fuhrmann (Avengers: Endgame).

Able to shrink and grow at will thanks to Pym Particles, Cassie is expected to join Ms. Marvel and Hawkeye as a founding member of the Young Avengers. The extent of her role in Avengers: Doomsday isn't clear, but it's believed that the scene in the trailer showed her father, Scott Lang, kissing his daughter goodbye.

In 2024, Newton said this about potentially getting the opportunity to assemble alongside the Young Avengers:

"In the Marvel universe, you hope for that. You hope to be. My whole thing is that I grew up watching Iron Man, and I feel like I grew with that character. So my hope for Cassie Lang has always been to grow with my audience, be it the people who are my age and saw [Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania], or the people who are just starting to watch Marvel movies at a young age. I saw one when I was a little young, but I still love those movies."

"So if I get an opportunity to continue the story, then that would be so cool to be a part of a generation that’s growing up with a film. It’s such a big part of my life. But they don’t really tell you. They tell you an overall, but I don’t take anything for granted. I am just trying to get through the day. Let’s finish one movie and then let’s continue. But I would very much also jump at the opportunity to work with Marvel Studios again."

You can watch Newton's Avengers: Doomsday announcement in the player below.

In Avengers: Doomsday, beloved heroes from three distinct universes will be set on a deadly collision course and face an existential threat unlike anything they’ve ever encountered.

Avengers: Doomsday stars Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Anthony Mackie, Winston Duke, Tom Hiddleston, Sebastian Stan, Letitia Wright, Paul Rudd, and Robert Downey Jr. Wyatt Russell, Simu Liu, Tenoch Huerta Mejia, Mabel Cadena, Florence Pugh, Danny Ramirez, David Harbour, Hannah John-Kamen, Lewis Pullman, India Rose Hemsworth, and Wesley Holloway all make their Avengers franchise debuts.

The Fantastic Four: First Steps leads Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, and Joseph Quinn join them, as do X-Men franchise stars Kelsey Grammer, Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Alan Cumming, Rebecca Romijn, James Marsden, with Deadpool & Wolverine star Channing Tatum.

The Russo Brothers direct Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars from a screenplay by Stephen McFeely, with whom they previously collaborated on the Avengers and Captain America franchises. The movie is produced by Kevin Feige, Louis D'Esposito, and Jonathan Schwartz, with Callum McDougall serving as executive producer.

Avengers: Doomsday is set to be released in theaters on December 18.

no offense to Newton but i hope Cassie gets obliterated.

easily the worst character to be introduced to the franchise in some time.

@themawisdead - really?

Why not just give her the chance to grow & mature then just waste that potential by killing her.

@TheVisionary25 -

not interested.

personally, i'm not a fan of the legacy superhero kids concept in the first place, let alone how she was handled in QM.

& in the economy of time and energy they have to develop these movies, i don't feel Cassie is worth the attention.

just my opinion, of course.

@themawisdead - fair enough I suppose.

@themawisdead - Agreed 1000 percent. She was insufferable in Quantummania. The heads of Marvel don't seem interested in "Reading the room" as usual.

@themawisdead - It's wasted screen time.

@Bucky74 -

lol right. let her face a world (now universe) ending threat and get her wig split.

maybe as she slips into darkness she'll have more appreciation for Scott's courage and sacrifices during the Civil and Infinity Wars.

@TheVisionary25 -

if i'm being fair, i do make room for Franklin & Valeria when i think about it...

but they are far more compelling in their origins and characterization, if they actually decide to go that route in adapting them.

@themawisdead - I feel she did have appreciation hence she didn’t want him to be an inactive hero like he was after EG.

@TheVisionary25 -

i respectully disagree lol

she has a very "what have you done for me lately" attitude at the start of the film when she's speaking to the person who brought half the world back from literal dust and saved the universe.

not to mention, his motivation for this - besides not dying - is to get to spend more time with her after the years he lost, and all she's concerned with is pushing him back out into danger. to me, that exactly because she doesn't have an appreciation for what he did.

if my father comes back from the brink of annihilation just for me, the last thing i'm doing is asking him to be a hero again. he paid his dues.

it'd be different if that is what Scott wanted and he's experiencing self-doubt. then she can remind him that he's an Avenger and perhaps even be inspired by her tenacity in the way she was inspired by his.

i just don't think the story handled any of that well enough to make Cassie sympathetic.

@themawisdead - that’s fair

I took it as her pushing him to be the hero we and she knows he can be bunt hasn’t been for a bit and is now wasting him on book signings etc (we know she’s an activist so she believes in being proactive).

Her youthful idealism can certainly make her impulsive and have an act before think attitude but I think something like that tempers over time as you mature hence I would like to see her journey.

Anyway , it’s been good to have a nice civil conversation about characters & such on here with you ..:).

likewise 🤝

& yes, the site needs more dialogue to chew on. our favorite comics writers also poured over these people in silly costumes with the same passion and derive great stories & perspectives. that's what this stuff is all about ultimately, and it's severely lacking 'round these parts.

Cool!!.

I thought Cassie was alright in Quantumania tbh , I can understand if some considered her too naive or bratty but she’s young and has room to grow so I hope they let her do that.

I just hope she meets up with the likes of Kamala & Kate sooner then later if she hasn’t already!!.

Someone tell me why they keep putting these characters that almost no one wants to see, and how can that character have any relevance to the plot? She was nothing more than an obnoxious brat in that forgettable Ant Man movie.
