Week four, and I'm still reading! Last week's roundup had 49 comments, and MrDandy's was the most liked: "This is a fun way to do weekly summaries while including community conversation. Thumbs up, Nate"
TheJok3r, who tied for the second most-liked comment on the site last week, complained about the count: "It's rigged; you should've stopped the count while I was ahead."
And lazlodaytona saw that I'm working on some HUGE updates for the site and said they'd better bring back the edit button. I already answered him in the thread, and I'll say it again: they actually do!
From last Sunday through Saturday, 460 of you posted 3,519 comments across 172 articles, and one movie ran away with the week.
Clayface had 10 of the 20 busiest threads, with 933 comments between them!
It started Monday with Josh's review, which gave the movie 2.5 stars, said Tom Rhys Harries shines, and called it DC's "Uninspired Morbius Moment" (138 comments).
That review did NOT break an embargo. Josh saw Clayface at a public screening at his local theater and bought his own ticket. Rotten Tomatoes, which follows studio embargoes, still held the review back until the press embargo lifted, and Josh explained the whole thing in his own piece, which drew 137 comments.
NotMyDiagnosis (11 likes) thought the fight was about something else: "From what I saw, the other critics seemed to have an issue with Josh getting there first and the fact it got posted to RT."
Moriakum's defense of Josh landed 8 likes: "...in this case, I'm on his side. If he paid to watch the movie and didn't watch it through the studio with an embargo agreement, then he has every right to publish his review whenever he wants."
On Wednesday, the movie's final form leaked online in HD, and some people on social media started calling it "Poopface" (70 comments). BoW didn't see the problem: "That looks pretty much like the BTAS. I don't know what everyone is complaining about."
Later that day, Clayface debuted Fresh at 73% on Rotten Tomatoes (115 comments) and went Certified Fresh a couple of hours after that (49 comments). It has since climbed to 75%.
Robin1994 brought the receipts to the score story (15 likes): "...Morbius had a 15% rotten tomatoes score to Clayface's 74% btw."
When Josh wrote that DC fans are celebrating the score (94 comments), BoriStrange wasn't budging, and 10 of you agreed: "I wouldn't care even if it got 100% on Rotten Tomatoes, I'm still not watching a Clayface movie without Batman in it." CAPTAINPINKEYE agreed: "DC fans didn't want this movie. DC fans want a Batman movie."
Clayface made $3.5 million from Thursday previews, per Deadline (76 comments), and MuadDib's report from the theater earned 13 likes:"Watched Clayface last night, it was surprisingly good... It was entertaining and the whole horror aspect really worked for it."
The audience is even happier than the critics. As of Sunday, it's at 94% on the Popcornmeter, and Mark's story points out that it ties Batman Begins and The Dark Knight as the highest audience-rated DC movie on Rotten Tomatoes (66 comments). Arthorious had one question: "I thought nobody wanted this movie?"
On Saturday, it landed an A- CinemaScore (134 comments). Sunday's estimates have it opening at about $24 million domestic and taking No. 1 over You Can See Everything, the documentary that Mark's Certified Fresh story said might beat it. Final numbers come Monday!
FireGunn's verdict, with 7 likes:"I'll give the DCU credit where credit is due. ... Maybe it'll have legs after all."
This week's No-Prize goes to asherman93 for the second week in a row, with an honorable mention for RitoRevolto!!!
On our story about concept art from Netflix's scrapped Power Rangers reboot, one reader was glad the project got scrapped because the art shows a female Red Ranger. asherman93 answered: "...you do realize this isn't the first time we got a female Red Ranger right? A-Squad's Leader in SPD, Lauren Shiba in Samurai, and... Amelia in Cosmic Fury."
All three check out. Gina Varela played Charlie, the A-Squad Red Ranger, in Power Rangers S.P.D., Kimberley Crossman's Lauren Shiba turned out to be the true Red Samurai Ranger in Super Samurai, and Hunter Deno's Amelia Jones took over as the Red Ranger and team leader in Cosmic Fury. asherman93 also named Time Force, where Jen, the Pink Ranger, led the team.
Then RitoRevolto chimed in: "I think the White Alien ranger also led that team during MMPR too." Yep! Delphine, the White Aquitar Ranger, led the Alien Rangers.
This week's most-liked comment on the ENTIRE site (not counting jabs at other readers or writers) goes to InfinitePunches, with 16 likes. Gunn told fans on Threads that the DCU Batman's suit hasn't been designed yet and that he isn't sure if Wally West is active, per Mark's story (49 comments). InfinitePunches: "How are you unsure if Wally West is active? It's your universe! You've had three years to think about this!"
RitoRevolto came to Gunn's defense: "It's still the beginning stages of this particular cinematic universe."
The Avengers: Doomsday teaser that aired during Game 1 of the World Series on Friday (75 comments) puts Earth-828's Fantastic Four at a ball game and has Ant-Man unsure whether to call Steve or Sam "Cap." Sominan (8 likes) picked a side:"Ant Man got it right. Steve is Cap"
Travis Knight told The Hollywood Reporter that Masters of the Universe "deserved a better fate than it got" from Amazon (66 comments). Pampero wasn't a fan: "That movie is unwatchable." InfraMan had the movie's back: "Never thought I'd say this, but Leto's Skeletor stole the show!"
Want the next No-Prize? Catch a fact that's wrong in an article or a comment!
If you saw Clayface this weekend, who got it right, the critics or the audience? After that World Series teaser, who's Cap to you: Steve or Sam?
