Avengers: Doomsday Seemingly Secures Early Release Date - But Has It Back Down From Dune: Part Three?

It appears Marvel Studios will hold advanced screenings for Avengers: Doomsday ahead of its December 18 release, but what does that mean for its box office battle with Dune: Part Three?

Avengers: Doomsday is currently set to arrive in theaters on December 18, but will MCU fans get to see the movie sooner than expected?

A Redditor reveals that they've been able to book a "special advanced screening" at the Grenada Hills 9 branch of Regency Theaters in California on December 16 at 7.30 pm. More screenings are listed for December 17, and as GamesRadar+ points out, the official Avengers: Doomsday website is also listing screenings for these dates.

Regency Theaters may have jumped the gun, but Disney and Marvel Studios appear to be planning early screenings for Avengers: Doomsday. This has become the norm for many big titles in recent years, including Spider-Man: Brand New Day back in July.

While spoilers become an issue, screenings like these build buzz and give a new blockbuster an early box office boost. That's particularly important for Avengers: Doomsday, as it now gets a head start on Dune: Part Three—which also opens on December 18—over the holidays.

All signs point to the next MCU movie being one of the year's biggest titles, if not the biggest. It's already hit $40 million in pre-sale tickets, and could be on track to demolish every record set by Spider-Man: Brand New Day (an undeniably spectacular feat).

If advance screenings are on the way for Avengers: Doomsday, then some fans will inevitably be frustrated that they've already booked tickets for the 18th. Of course, most will want to see the movie again, anyway—assuming it lives up to expectations—and we don't currently know how widespread these showings will be across the U.S. and globally.

Marvel Studios has been hyping up Avengers: Doomsday since last December, when four teasers played in theaters alongside Avatar: Fire and Ash. Of course, excitement started building even before then with last March's epic cast/chair reveal.

Stay tuned for more on Avengers: Doomsday as we have it.

In Avengers: Doomsday, beloved heroes from three distinct universes will be set on a deadly collision course and face an existential threat unlike anything they’ve ever encountered.

Avengers: Doomsday stars Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Anthony Mackie, Winston Duke, Tom Hiddleston, Sebastian Stan, Letitia Wright, Paul Rudd, and Robert Downey Jr. Wyatt Russell, Simu Liu, Tenoch Huerta Mejia, Mabel Cadena, Florence Pugh, Danny Ramirez, David Harbour, Hannah John-Kamen, Lewis Pullman, India Rose Hemsworth, and Wesley Holloway all make their Avengers franchise debuts.

The Fantastic Four: First Steps leads Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, and Joseph Quinn join them, as do X-Men franchise stars Kelsey Grammer, Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Alan Cumming, Rebecca Romijn, James Marsden, with Deadpool & Wolverine star Channing Tatum.

The Russo Brothers direct Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars from a screenplay by Stephen McFeely, with whom they previously collaborated on the Avengers and Captain America franchises. The movie is produced by Kevin Feige, Louis D'Esposito, and Jonathan Schwartz, with Callum McDougall serving as executive producer.

Avengers: Doomsday is set to be released on December 18.

Does it need to though? I'm surprised Dune hasn't moved yet. Yeah it might be popular, but Dunesday is gonna be in no a battle.

@bkmeijer1 - Yeah I thought Dune would move. Love both franchises, but surely would have been wiser to move Dune out of the way.
