EDITORIAL: My Picks For Marvel's Mystery 2020 Movies

Marvel’s Phase 3 has been revamped to include three new films. What are they? Hell if I know, but I'm going to give my two cents as to what it could be.

Marvel has announced that three new films will be added to their film slate in 2020. We'll have gone through Civil War, and even Infinity War. So what comes next? Well lets discuss!

Guardians of the Galaxy 3

Probably the most likely of the films to be in 2020. It will have been three years since Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, and six years since the original. A three year turnaround time seems realistic. Plus, with all the lead up to Infinity War, it would be nice to see the Guardians in a film where part of the plot isn't just leading up to Infinity War. Perhaps adapt War of the Kings or The Thanos Imperative.

Spider-Man 2

Another likely bet. It will have been three years since the first Spider-Man film under the Sony-Marvel partnership. Marvel will also want to capitalize on the time they have with the web-crawler as there's really no guarantee that Marvel will get the rights again or if Sony will take them back at a certain point.

Thunderbolts

With The Avengers being the huge property that it is, it's surprising that Sony and Warner Bros are (or in Sony's case, were) the only ones trying to capitalize on the idea of villains teaming up. Marvel may not be able to pull off every member of the Thunderbolts, but even a very basic first iteration of the team would be fun to see on screen.

Runaways

The Runaways have been benched for years. They were supposed to appear in Phase 2 but lost out to Guardians of the Galaxy. Now, Marvel is focusing on the galactic stage, and it seems that there's no room for Runaways in their current path towards Infinity War. However, once they've done Infinity War, it would be good to see Marvel step back and give some of the lesser known franchises a try. The Runaways make sense, and after seeing what will be an epic two-part movie event, seeing a group of teens would be a welcome reprieve.

Iron Man (reboot)

It will have been seven years since Iron Man 3, and while it's tempting to see the character retired for a while, I think Marvel will want to re-cast the character and start off with a fresh take on the character. It would be great to see a fresh new talent tackle a character we've all seen for over a decade done with a different energy and style. Plus, starting Phase 4 (or ending Phase 3) with a redux Iron Man would be a great way to show that Marvel is changing their formula, if this is indeed the case.

(Agent) Venom

It's highly likely that once Spider-Man is introduced, that many of his side characters will start to get introduced. Giving Venom his own movie makes sense, especially as Agent Venom has become an increasingly bigger part of the Marvel universe as a whole. He's also a big part of...

Secret Avengers

Marvel has flirted with the idea (the opening of The Winter Soldier was essentially Secret Avengers). With the world being in a state of chaos in a post-Infinity War world, it would make sense for Captain America and some of the other Avengers to go below the radar.

Hulk Solo Film

What shocks me is that the supposed 'hurdle' of Universal's distribution of a Hulk solo film. It seems like something Marvel could fix with a little bit of cash if it was really holding back a Hulk solo film from becoming a reality. Either way, Marvel would be smart to figure out the logistics of a Hulk solo film as they move into Phase 4 and beyond.

Fantastic Four

Let's be honest. That's not happening.
