Earlier today, we reported on Dan Marcus' claim that DC Studios and director Andy Muschietti will not be moving forward with The Brave and the Bold until the WBD/Paramount merger is settled, but, as many had already speculated, it seems we may meet the DCU's new Batman a little sooner - just not in live-action form!
According to Brazilian reporter @mundosdadc, the upcoming Dynamic Duo movie will be set in the DCU, which means the animated film will mark the big screen debut of our new Dark Knight.
We did get a shadowy glimpse of Batman in Creature Commandos, but we assume the character will have an actual supporting role in Dynamic Duo, potentially giving us at least some idea of what to expect from this take on Gotham's protector when he does eventually make the jump to live-action.
We wouldn't put too much stock in this just yet (the project was initially announced as an Elseworlds tale), although it's worth noting that several other social media scoopers seem to believe that there might be something to this report.
Earlier this year at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival, we learned that Dynamic Duo will actually focus on Jason Todd and Dick Grayson, who meet as a pair of "street rats" before going their separate ways. Dick becomes Batman's Boy Wonder, while Jason joins the Red Hood Gang, setting up an eventual confrontation between the former friends.
(500) Days of Summer writers Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Weber penned the latest draft of the script, and the movie is said to utilize CGI, 2D animation, miniatures, models, puppetry, and animatronics.
"Over the moon excited to announce the newest DC Studios/Warner Bros Pictures Animation greenlit film for theaters, Dynamic Duo, the story of Robin...or should I say, Robins, as in Dick Grayson and Jason Todd," James Gunn said when the movie was announced. "The first feature film from the visionary Swaybox, a mix of animation, puppetry, and CGI, a script from the wonderfully talented Matt Aldrich, produced with our partners at Matt Reeves’ 6th and Idaho. This is something special."
Gunn said that there "might be a way" to make Dynanic Duo "fit into the DCU" last year.
"There might be a way it might fit into the DCU. I would love for this animated puppet movie to be a part of the DCU. That's really appealing to me, but the story is unique, and so it may not work within our universe."
Dynamic Duo is set to be released in theaters on June 30, 2028.
