Heading into D23, we knew Obsession star Inde Navarrette had met with X-Men director Jake Schreier. The actress named Mystique as her dream role, seemingly a misdirect to cover up that she'd been cast as Rogue.
The news that the Superman & Lois alum is playing the character has been met with a hugely positive response from fans. A comic-accurate Rogue has yet to grace the big screen, with Anna Paquin's version largely relegated to teenage love stories instead of standing tall as one of the most powerful members of the X-Men.
The hope is that this movie will finally do right by Anna Marie, and Navarrette has now commented briefly on joining the MCU while signing autographs for fans.
"It's phenomenal," she says in the video below. "A huge honour. It's insane." Her excitement to join the X-Men franchise is apparent, and there are countless directions to take the hero on screen. Whether it's her relationships with characters like Magneto, Gambit, and Captain Marvel, or the fact that she eventually leads her own team of X-Men, the sky is the limit for Navarrette.
The actress has been propelled into superstardom by Obsession, which crossed $500 million at the global box office this weekend. That makes it the highest-grossing original film this decade, a remarkable achievement, seeing as it doesn't feature an A-list cast.
The success of the movie has had an impact on everyone involved. Filmmaker Curry Barker has lined up his next movie, Anything But Ghosts, and a new spin on the Texas Chain Saw Massacre could follow. Navarrette, who has her pick of projects, will take centre stage in X-Men, while Michael Johnston, who plays Bear, is making his own blockbuster debut in the next Mummy movie.
Directed by Jake Schreier (Thunderbolts*), the untitled X-Men movie stars Kit Connor (Heartstopper) as Scott Summers, Sadie Sink (Spider-Man: Brand New Day) as Jean Grey, Christopher Abbott (Catch-22) as Professor Charles Xavier, Samara Weaving (Ready or Not) as Emma Frost, Inde Navarrette (Obsession) as Rogue, and Maya Boyd (& Juliet) as Storm. Adam Driver (Star Wars: The Force Awakens) will play Nathaniel Milbury.
