Following Hugh Jackman's return in 2024's Deadpool & Wolverine, there's a huge amount of excitement surrounding when and where we'll see his Logan Variant again.
Rumours point to him having a small role in this December's Avengers: Doomsday, with bigger things expected for next year's Avengers: Secret Wars. Nothing has been confirmed, of course, but it's hard to imagine Wolverine not getting a final farewell before the Multiverse Saga ends.
During a recent interview with Variety, the trade asked Jackman whether he'll be in Secret Wars after repeated denials about unsheathing his claws again a couple of months from now.
"I don’t know what you’re talking about," he replied. "I have no idea what you’re talking about. I do have an internal chip that is not metaphorical. There’s a literal chip, and if I say the wrong thing, I get shut down. I don’t know who controls that chip, but someone is controlling it."
It's pretty obvious now that Jackman's Wolverine will be in both Avengers movies. From there, the big question is whether Marvel Studios attempts to convince him to continue playing the clawed mutant in the Mutant Saga.
The alternative will be to recast the role, something we know is possible after Henry Cavill made a surprise appearance as a Wolverine Variant in Deadpool & Wolverine. However, it appears the character won't factor into Jake Schreier's planned X-Men reboot.
Deadpool & Wolverine was Marvel Studios' first R-Rated movie and grossed over $1.3 billion in 2024. The threequel proved that not every MCU title needs to be PG-13 and served as a reminder that Hugh Jackman remains a huge box office draw when he unsheathes Logan's claws.
Do you think we'll see Jackman's Wolverine in the next Avengers movies?
The confirmed (or semi-confirmed, at least) cast of Avengers: Secret Wars includes Robert Downey Jr. (Doctor Doom), Chris Evans (Steve Rogers), Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Anthony Mackie (Captain America), Benedict Cumberbatch (Doctor Strange), Paul Bettany (The Vision), Letitia Wright (Black Panther), Simu Liu (Shang-Chi), Florence Pugh (Yelena Belova), and Hayley Atwell (Peggy Carter).
Also appearing are Pedro Pascal (Mister Fantastic), Vanessa Kirby (Invisible Woman), Joseph Quinn (Human Torch), Ebon Moss-Bachrach (The Thing), Sadie Sink (Jean Grey), and Noah Jupe.
The Russo Brothers direct Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars from a screenplay by Stephen McFeely, with whom they previously collaborated on the Avengers and Captain America franchises. Loki and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness writer Michael Waldron has also been enlisted to refine the story, alongside Spider-Man: Brand New Day's Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers.
Avengers: Doomsday is set to be released on December 18, with Avengers: Secret Wars scheduled to arrive on December 17, 2027.
