While Joker is expected to come in slightly lower than previous domestic box office estimates suggested, the Todd Philips-helmed DC Comics adaptaion is looking at a very impressive global debut.

According to Deadline, Joker could climb as high as $155 million when it hits theaters this weekend (Wednesday in some international markets), which would give the film the second-best ever opening for October behind last year’s Venom ($207.4M).

 It is is difficult to predict how Joker will go down with general audiences, however. While many will likley want to go along and and see what all the fus is about, the violent, relentlessy grim psychological thriller could be a hard sell for those looking for some comic book movie escapism.
