BLACK PANTHER 3 Rumored Title Resurfaces With Filming Start Date; Colman Domingo Talks Kevin Feige Meeting

Black Panther 3 is on the way, and it's been widely reported that it will kick off the post-Avengers: Secret Wars MCU in February 2028.

A mixture of rumours and even some leaked concept art from the next Avengers movies (it remains unclear whether it was for DoomsdaySecret Wars or perhaps previous versions of either one) has pointed to Marvel Studios reintroducing T'Challa.

Denzel Washington is expected to join the cast, while Ryan Coogler will return to direct. F1: The Movie star Damson Idris is rumoured to be the new T'Challa, and while a release date hasn't been officially announced, Black Panther 3 would be a fitting choice of movie to usher in a new era of storytelling in the post-Secret Wars MCU.

Total Film has unearthed a listing on the Film and Television Industry Alliance website, claiming that the next Black Panther movie begins shooting in London on June 15, 2026. The document states that the threequel is titled "Shadows of Wakanda," and "will explore Wakanda’s vulnerability after T’Challa’s death, with Shuri stepping up as both warrior and leader."

Similar to the Production List, this sounds a lot like information that's been compiled from various online reports rather than concrete intel from Marvel Studios. Still, that start date is new, so we'll have to wait and see what happens in the months ahead. Coogler has previously said that Black Panther 3 will be his next movie.

Black Panther was released in 2018 to widespread critical acclaim and a massive $1.3 billion worldwide. The sequel, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, grossed $859 million worldwide in 2022 and was similarly considered a success in the post-COVID landscape for superhero movies.

In other MCU news, Colman Domingo has talked more about his Marvel future while appearing on the Golden Globes red carpet. Saying that he had "one beautiful meeting" with Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige, the actor added, "I would love to be a part of the Marvel Universe, but I feel like I want it to be very intentional and specific on exactly what I’m doing. I don’t wanna just do anything."

Domingo currently voices Norman Osborn in Marvel Animation's Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, but is clearly waiting for the right live-action MCU character. Why not the new Green Goblin?

Wasn’t it rumored that Colman and Feige did meet in order to discuss him potentially playing Kang before the pivot to Doom happened?.

If so then that would have been cool to see but I know that he had said that he wouldn’t do a role that another actor had already done in continuity but a version that was built from scratch so I wouldn’t be surprised if that mentality from him & other actors perhaps helped lead to the Doom change but could be wrong since RDJ had said they had discussed him returning as Victor a year before he was officially revealed.

Anyway , he does great as Norman in YFNS so him playing the MCU live action version of the character would be welcomed imo!!.

oooohhh, could this mean Black Panther 3 could be out before Secret Wars. If they start potentially filming in June 2026, they could have it out before the end of Summer 2027...look at Black Panther 1 for comparison, it started filming 13 months before its release

Im just so adamant that they will finish this incarnation of Black Panther out before Secret Wars potentially reboots everything...I would rather they have a new T'Challa for post-Secret Wars

@dancingmonkey08 - I don’t see them rebooting everything in SW tbh…

It will be a soft reboot at best in which they integrate the FF and X-Men while also perhaps retconning or changing some decisions they made but I can see a lot of the actors we already have continuing on.

@dancingmonkey08 - honestly, could see it happen. Do think Marvel needs a summer movie too, so Black Panther 3 could work.

And I kinda wanna see Secret Wars introduce a variant T'Challa. Maybe even from Fantastic Four's Earth

TheVisionary25 - 1/12/2026, 11:25 AM
@bkmeijer1 - honestly , I think we’ll just get Secret Wars in 2027 since Doomsday will likely end with the creation of Battleworld…

However in 2028 , I can see BP 3 and X-Men being atleast 2 of the theatrical releases that year.

@TheVisionary25 - that's what I'm expecting as well, although I wouldn't mind seeing Black Panther earlier.

Which movie could be the third one in 2028 though? Blade or Armor Wars?
TheVisionary25
TheVisionary25 - 1/12/2026, 11:55 AM
@bkmeijer1 - not sure

Hell , they might just release 2

Maybe Midnight Sons?.

bkmeijer1 - 1/12/2026, 12:09 PM
@TheVisionary25 - rather see another Doctor Strange than Midnight Sons to be honest.

Doubt they'll release just 2 though. There's likely more Spider-Man movies after Brand New Day, and I'm guessing Fantastic Four 2 and Shang-Chi 2 will also happen. There's enough to pick from I suppose.

I understand him not wanting to “do just anything”. Until X-men join the MCU proper, there aren’t a lot of great characters left to play, and Giancarlo Esposito is a warning to all actors going forward. Marvel got that man to join the MCU and he was… checks notes… some guy with a gun.

@LenSpiderman - yeah. such a waste of talent on a shit role. disappointing after he was linked to doom and xavier for so long. please A list people dont accept comedic relief, canon fodder or cameo BS from Feige. he lives and dies by the disappointing not important as you think , comedic relief revelations. so stupid.

I can see Domingo being Shadow King. I heard that Coogler wants to involve some horror aspects into this film. Would be dope to see him bring the energy from "Sinners" to BP3.

LenSpiderman - 1/12/2026, 8:20 PM
@ModHaterSLADE - heck yeah. It’s a shame that season 1 of what if had the best Doctor strange plot in the MCU so far, and since it was basically a MUCH better take on the first movie, there’s really no point in trying to riff on it again in live action. I WISH upon a star that the first Doctor strange was the plot of that episode instead of just magic iron man. But maybe brother voodoo can come into play later.

@LenSpiderman - Now that you mention it, it did feel like Magic Iron Man in a way. I agree What If Strange is way more interesting.

I expect being closer to comic after Secret Wars, or stop doing those movies and ruin origin.
If he plays Norman Osborn, then Ryan Gosling should play Black Panther and Margot Robbie should play Storm.
Otherwise it's not equality.
asherman93
asherman93 - 1/12/2026, 2:54 PM
@deamon - The key difference between Norman and those two, is that Norman Osborn's race isn't an inherent part of his character - whereas Black Panther and Storm's blackness was an inherent part of their characters from the word "go". (Hell, while there's debate between whether Kirby or Lee were the ones to come up with the character first, both are on record for creating Black Panther precisely because they realized were no major black superheroes and wanted to fix that.)

You ain't asking for "equality", you're just bitching about letting nonwhite actors get a chance to give their own take on traditionally white roles.

Maybe Colman Domingo would do great in the role, maybe he wouldn't, maybe he'll be an otherwise-good casting choice that gets undermined by subpar material (see Lance Reddick as Albert Wesker).

I'm willing to wait and see if this does wind up being the case - though, again, my ideal choice for Norman would be Steve Buscemi. (I could also see Denzel Washington pull off Osborn, but given Coogler's almost certainly having him play Achebe, that ship has likely sold - though for the better given how I can't wait to see Denzel cut loose as him.)
deamon
deamon - 1/12/2026, 5:55 PM
@asherman93 - Race is an inherent part of Magneto's character, and still some peple says about Denzel playing him.
asherman93
asherman93 - 1/13/2026, 6:16 PM
@deamon - More in regards to Erik's Jewish heritage than his actual skin color - and even then, there have unfortunately been enough Jewish massacres throughout history that you could cast a black actor like Denzel and have one of THOSE be what he survived in place of the Holocaust.

(Granted, my hope is that if/when they do re-cast/cast an MCU-native variant of Magneto, they get a Jewish actor.)
asherman93
asherman93 - 1/12/2026, 2:42 PM
I've got no problem with him potentially playing the MCU-native variant of Norman in live action, though my personal top choice would be Steve Buscemi.
