Gregg Hurwitz, current writer of Batman: The Dark Knight, posted the following on his blog:

"Batman is forever, but sadly not all of his titles are. 'Batman: The Dark Knight' will be ending with Issue 29. When I first signed on to do a single arc with David Finch, I never imagined I’d stay this long. Because of my work in novels and screenplays, I’m rarely sure what sorts of deadlines I’ll be juggling at any time, so I usually commit to a single six-issue story at a time and write way out ahead of schedule. DC has been great and gracious about accommodating this, and because of their flexibility, I wound up writing on the title for two (really damn fun) years."

I'm a bit confused as to why this was cancelled. It was a title that didn't exactly shape the mythology, but featured Batman doing what he does best and put up pretty decent sales numbers. In a world drowning in Batman titles, this was the fourth best seller. At first it existed as an outlet to have David Finch draw Batman and then continued on with other superstar artists like Ethan Van Sciver and Alex Maleev. Yet Batwing gets barely any readers and still lives on. I guess we have to make some room for the upcoming Batman: Eternal.

Batman: The Dark Knight #29 by Gregg Hurwitz and Ethan Van Sciver ships this March and will conclude a two issue Man-Bat arc. Below is the cover for issue #28.

Well the difference is, this has been consistently the worst reviewed Bat title in the bunch. I, personally dropped it cause I got bored with it. It was very much been there done that and it kept just going through villains. It was just not that good. I'm sure there are people who like it because it did sell decently but I'm not surprised that it's being cancelled, mainly because of all the reviews.

I understand your point. However, some titles live on and sell due to name value alone. Catwoman has been unreadable since Judd Winick left the book.

This was never as good as Batman but ever since Gregg Hurwitz took over this book it became quite good, especially the Mad Hatter arc.

Man-Bat is always a good sign your story-telling well has run dry.

This book has been great under Hurwitz, sad to see it go. If you want to cancel a bat book, cancel Batman and...
