Writer Brian Michael Bendis returned to Marvel Comics last year for a backup story in Avengers #800. He's since penned a Spider-Man and Superman story for Marvel and DC's latest crossover, and is among those contributing to Amazing Spider-Man #1000.
Today, Entertainment Weekly brings word that Bendis is returning to the world of Alias with a new five-issue series, Jessica Jones: Alias.
He'll reunite with artist Michael Gaydos—they collaborated on the original Alias series that launched in 2001—for a comic featuring covers by David Mack. 2026 marks the 25th anniversary of Jessica's creation, and this comic will arrive right before the year ends in December.
"She is a very different Jessica Jones than the hot mess we introduced 25 years ago in the very first issue," Bendis told the site. "Jessica’s responsibility to herself and to her cases and the kind of case that only Jessica can do has evolved as she has evolved. So an anniversary is a great opportunity to create a case that allows Jessica to re-explore the Marvel universe."
It's said that the story opens with Jessica tasked with locating a superpowered missing child she believes is a mutant. That will take her to some "obscure and bizarre corners of the Marvel Universe," including Latveria and the Savage Land. Bendis teased, "She’s gonna head over to a perfect place where a leather jacket is completely inappropriate, and [it’ll] take her even further than that."
"[Jessica] can’t help but feel what that would feel like in her more complicated family dynamic with Luke Cage and the children," the writer continued. "So she takes it upon herself to take this case with some help from some friends, and it immediately rips her life apart in every possible way."
"Jessica has, since her debut, been something very different in my life," Bendis added. "There’s something very emotional and intimate about the way [people] talk about her. It’s always been the best kind of conversation you could ever hope to have with readers. People see themselves in her and love her and root for her. All of that is in this series."
As for what his Marvel Comics future looks like beyond Jessica Jones: Alias, Bendis says he's working on "a couple" of projects for the publisher, including one which is "the most beautiful thing" and already has "five issues drawn."
