ALADDIN: Disney Releases A Hi-Res Look At Will Smith's Genie (With Finished Visual Effects)
Our first official look at Will Smith's Genie in that newly released TV spot has been widely ridiculed, but a hi-res image has now debuted with the final version and it may help put your minds at ease...
Disney came under fire for failing to show the Genie off in his blue form on Aladdin's Entertainment Weekly cover, but Will Smith promised at the time that he would ultimately be blue. Well, we got a first look at that last night and...he looked utterly terrible?
That's more of a factual statement than an opinion as the special effects clearly weren't finished and it looked like Smith's head had been superimposed on a cartoonish, blue body! There's plenty of time for that to be polished up, of course, and this newly released hi-res still from Disney shows just how much better that version of the Genie will look.
Some fans will no doubt still find fault with this take on the character (especially as Robin Williams' version was so beloved) but this definitely looks like a solid enough version of the live-action version of the classic Aladdin scene-stealer.
Whether or not he'll actually end up looking this good in the movie itself is a big question, especially as it's hard to understand why Disney would show off an incomplete version in that TV spot! What do you guys think? As always, be sure to let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
