While Disney has plenty of planned live-action remakes of their classic films in the pipeline, one of them has suffered a small setback. According to The Tracking Board, the remake of Pinocchio project just lost its planned director, the Academy Award-winning Sam Mendes

Mendes was never formally announced as the film's director, but had entered talks to be involved late last May. Fortunately, Chris Weitz (Antz, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story) is still on board writing the film's screenplay, leaving the studio time to find a replacement. The reason for Mendes' departure is unknown, though it was rumoured to be because of James Bond 25 (which has since been dismissed). In the meantime, Disney is looking for another director to helm the film..

Pinocchio is currently without a release date, but is speculated to hit theatres in 2021. Who would you like to see helm the film? Let us know in the comments.

Good, now get Spike Jonze to write and direct. He’s perfect for Pinocchio.
