DC Studios has promised the Clayface movie will keep Matt Hagen's transformation under wraps until fans get to see it in theaters, but that doesn't mean glimpses at what's to come won't surface before October 23.
While it feels like Clayface could be next to get the Surf Dracula treatment after John Stewart, there's an understandable amount of excitement to see what the iconic Batman villain looks like in his comic-accurate form. Creature Commandos offered a good idea of that, of course, but seeing him in live-action will be something else entirely.
Today, we have a couple of new Clayface popcorn buckets, both of which appear to show Matt's monstrous new appearance. While this does somewhat let the cat out of the bag before the movie arrives in theaters, it would have been very difficult to sell merchandise like this without showing a version of the monster's final form.
Actor Thomas Rhys Harries recently caught up with Interview Magazine, and explained how he relaxed while shooting such a gruelling horror movie. "I played Elden Ring to switch my brain off during the three months I was screen testing for Clayface," he explained. "It probably talks to my level of anxiety throughout that period."
The Welsh actor continued, "I love the script. They’ve built these three brilliant acts. It’s almost like a Greek tragedy. There’s so much depth, it just gives you scope to be exploring loads of things that feel endless because human beings are endless."
Clayface isn't currently tracking for a particularly big opening weekend, but its lower budget—a reported $40 million—should go a long way in ensuring that DC Studios turns a tidy profit on its latest DCU movie.

In Clayface, Matt Hagen’s meteoric rise from Gotham street kid to Hollywood leading man is tragically cut short when a local crime boss’s actions leave him horribly disfigured. Abandoned by his team and with nothing left, Matt seeks out a cutting-edge treatment that miraculously returns him to his former self, but also unexpectedly affects his grip on reality, spiralling him down a destructive path of all-consuming revenge.
The movie stars Tom Rhys Harries in the title role of the cult-favourite villain from Gotham's rogues' gallery. The cast includes Naomi Ackie, David Dencik, Max Minghella and Eddie Marsan, as well as Nancy Carroll and Joshua James.
James Watkins directs from a screenplay by Mike Flanagan and Hossein Amini, with Flanagan also getting a "Story by" credit. Clayface is produced by Matt Reeves, Lynn Harris, James Gunn and Peter Safran, with Michael E. Uslan, Chantal Nong Vo, Lars P. Winther, Rafi Crohn and Paul Ritchie executive producing.
Watkins' creative team includes director of photography Rob Hardy, production designer James Price, editor Jon Harris and costume designer Keith Madden. Volker Bertelmann (Conclave) is the movie's composer.
Clayface will be released in theaters on October 23.
