Editorial/Review: GhostRiderfan1 revists 2004's The Punisher

My thoughts on why it's better than Dolph Lundgeren's (hopefully I spelled it right) and Ray Stevensons and I give a review of the film.

"God's gonna sit this one out." My favorite line from Thomas Jane's The Punisher a film that's been constantly underrated by critics and fans alike. Thomas Jane is the title character Frank Castle, a FBI agent whos family was killed by a mob, a set up by Howard Saint for the death of Saint's son. Frank then becomes The Punisher, a man who is judge, jury and executioner (hey, he's like daredevil without the rediculous costume XD) he protects the innocent by killing mobs, gangs, rapists you name it, he kills it. In the film he is out for revenge on Howard Saint for the death of Castle's family. I find the acting in this movie to be great but from Thomas Jane, he was phenomenal as Frank Castle. He brings to the character a greater depression and anger than the character ever was in the comics. The acting from the rest of the cast is great. I feel the director knew what film he was making, knew what he wanted the film to be, added from the source of the comics. The action is over the top and very well done, probably the highlight of the movies is The Punisher vs. The Russian. The score can be a bit depressing but is very well done and really helps drive the movie.

Overall: The film is very underrated but is one of Marvel's best. The drama is very well writen and the acting is spot on. 9/10

Now, the reason I find this movie to be better than the other two is for the better acting, story driven, better drama, the action is when it's appropriate and it's just a better adaptation to the comics. The bad acting killed the original for me, Punisher: War Zone... wow that movie was just bad. The acting and the sound wasn't but the rest of the movie is. They tried making it closer to the comics by every detail and wanted to make it bloodier and gorier and look how that went for them. They ignored the story and his motivations and it killed the movie. To say War Zone is an ok movie is pushing it, Overall the reasons 2004's Punisher is better is basically written in the review but to a greater degree.

Leave respectful comments about whether you agree or disagree and which film you like best and why and why the others failed to you.

I feel the complete opposite with everything you say haha. The acting was terrible especially travolta and the neighbors. Annoying actually, and all around it just did not feel like a punisher movie at all. I like thomas jane, but not as the punisher. I did like the Harry heck scene though.

I wanted to really like War Zone, but it had no heart to it. It was really violent, which I loved, but every character in that movie sucked. Micro was perfectly cast, but they gave him nothing to do and killed him off. Jigsaw was just stupid as was his brother Looney Bin Jim. If you say that the villain makes the hero better, then what were they thinking? The cops were beyond terrible. Aside from Wayne Knight and Ray Stevenson, the rest of the cast seemed like a fan film.

I loved the Thomas Jane Punisher movie. Sure the neighbors were stupid, but I loved Saint, his buddy, Heck, and the way Castle "punished" his enemy. He did more than kill him, he made him destroy everything that he cared about.

I respectfully disagree. This was the worst of the bunch: terrible script, terrible actinig by Jane and Travolta, and a complete mockery of Punisher's back story.

The gangsters murder his entire family--wife, son, dad, mother, cousins, uncles, friggin everybody. What does Punisher do? tricks the gangster into killing his wife and best friend. wow. Saint wins that battle I'm afraid.

and the fake torture scene with a popcicle--are you fugging serious YOUR ENTIRE FAMILY WAS MURDERED!

The only redeeming quality was the filming and cinematography, which I found interesting to watch. When DOlph Lundgrens Punisher is better than yours--you fail

Thanks for the write up, though. It is a subject I am passionate about. 3 failed movies of one of my favorite character....:(
