SECRET AVENGERS FANCAST—BY DDD!!!

I Got A Request To Do A SECRET AVENGERS Casting-- Here It Is!

By DDD - Sep 28, 2010 06:09 AM EST

I got a request by CBM.COM user OPTIMUSPRIME114@ to do a
SECRET AVENGERS casting. I never got a request before so bear with
me. I haven't thought of doing one of this group before, the AVENGER'S
Black-ops group, so I got to work on it right away!

Luckily I had already been working on another fancast with some of these
characters in it and the pictures were already to go!

The first issue of their new comic was published, JULY, 2010, and has been
ongoing ever since. It's part of Marvel's new “HEROIC AGE”. It's written
by ED BRUBAKER and penciled and inked by the extremely brilliant,
MIKE DEODATO JR.

When STEVE ROGERS took over Norman Osborn's role as top cop, he chose not to
continue H.A.M.M.E.R. or to reestablish S.H.I.E.L.D. Instead, he decided to
put the world's security into the hands of a few Avenger teams. One of these
teams became the Secret Avengers, and he took direct leadership of it with
Sharon Carter assisting him with tactical operations.

The purpose of this team was to covertly clean up the messes left by the
Osborn administration. To this end, Steve personally recruited a team that
would allow him to carry out surgical strikes in any given circumstance.
This included experienced covert operators like BLACK WIDOW, MOON
KNIGHT and ANT-MAN; a scientist in BEAST; a one man army in WAR
MACHINE; a powerful magical warrior called the VALKYRIE in
BRUNNHILDE, and the cosmos' top cop NOVA.

“A personal note here, my pure-Norwegian grandmother's first name was
HILDA, meaning “warrior-woman”, it's a very common name for girls in
Norwegian families. BRUNNHILDE is spelled in old Norse, BRYNHILDR,
meaning ARMORED-WARRIOR WOMAN, she was the QUEEN OF THE
VALKYRIE.”

Now I'm not going to bore everyone to tears here with extensive bios on all
the characters cuz they are just so well-known I don't think it's necessary.

SECRET AVENGERS MOVIE FANCAST:

Photobucket

This is the older STEVE ROGERS and I think MARK is perfect for this
role. He got really beefed up for “HUMAN TARGET” on FOX TV.

CAPTAIN STEVE ROGERS: MARK VALLEY

Photobucket

This is my first and favorite choice to play VALKYRIE.

VALKYRIE: YVONNE STRAHOVSKI

Photobucket

BEAST (HANK McCOY): JON HAMM

Photobucket

KATE is ideal for NATALIA ROMANOVA! I wish she had played her in
the IRON-MAN movies and eventually in THE AVENGERS. I don't like
RYAN REYNOLD'S wife for the part at all!

BLACK WIDOW: KATE BECKINSALE

Photobucket

ROGER CROSS is an extremely good character actor and plays
military types very well. He was agent CURTIS MANNING on 24.

WAR MACHINE (JIM RHODES): ROGER CROSS

Photobucket

ANT-MAN (ERIC O'GRADY): JAMES RODAY

Photobucket

Now I thought long and hard about who can play MOON KNIGHT and
his three personas he maintains. So I chose JEFFREY DONOVAN of
USA Channel's “BURN NOTICE”. He must have a thousand
personalities rolling around in his head! And he does diverse
characters very well in movies (see Clint Eastwood's “THE
CHANGELING”). He's also very good at playing a covert operative.

Now I'm not stereotyping Jeffrey here but if he can play this covert
operative on TV with a multitude of undercover characters he surely
can play the three MOON KNIGHT has, millionaire STEVEN GRANT,
cab driver JAKE LOCKLEY, and of course his real identity MARC
SPECTOR, mercenary soldier. Plus Jeffrey is in damn good shape so he
would certainly look good in the costume and he's a very good actor!

MOON KNIGHT (MARC SPECTOR): JEFFREY DONOVAN

Photobucket

Here's Jeffrey as...JAKE LOCKLEY, MARC SPECTOR, STEVEN GRANT

Photobucket

Photobucket

Jeffrey does tons of different characters on Burn Notice when he's undercover.
He's amazing!

Photobucket

NOVA (RICHARD RIDER): JARED PADALECKI

Photobucket

SUPPORTING CAST:

SHARON CARTER: SIENNA MILLER

Photobucket

XANDARIAN WORLDMIND: SIR IAN McKELLEN

Photobucket

ARCHON is an enormous powerful being, the last of a group of beings
who were built by THE WATCHERS. ARCHON and his brethren were tasked
with destroying an ancient dark force that seeks to obliterate the
universe.

ARCHON: CGI + CHRISTOPHER JUDGE (VOICE)

Photobucket

'NUFF SAID!

NICK FURY: BRUCE WILLIS

Photobucket

MAIN BAD GUYS:

THE SHADOW COUNCIL --

Aloysius was born in the 1800's. The son of a wealthy man in the south, his
father helped fund the Confederate Army of the United States while Aloysius
served as a Major against the Union. After the Confederate defeat and his
family nearly bankrupt, he and his colleagues were on a search for a Union
spy. While following him, he touched a being known as the Abyss, described
as a dormant power of the universe and 'the darkness inside the darkness'.

Over 150 years later, Aloysius is the director of an organization known as the
Shadow Council.

They obviously drew ALOYSIUS (AL-O-WEE-SHUS) to look a lot like good
ol' CLINT EASTWOOD but Clint's now too old to play him.

Photobucket

I chose the next best older cowboy-actor, KEITH CARRADINE, star of a
total classic, along with his brothers, and an absolute favorite of mine,
“THE LONG RIDERS”.

ALOYSIUS THORNDRAKE: KEITH CARRADINE

MAX FURY:
SECRET AVENGERS “SECRET HISTORIES” (EPILOGUE)
Five years ago in Paris, a man resembling Nick Fury is arrested by S.H.I.E.L.D.
agents.

In the present, Steve Rogers and Sharon Carter talk with Nick Fury about the
Shadow Council agent that resembles Fury. Recognizing him, Fury tells when his
brother Jacob worked with Zodiac as Scorpio. According to Fury, Jacob stole a
new “LIFE MODEL DECOY” prototype and reprogrammed it using the Zodiac Key,
giving it Fury's memory. This made the LMD think that it actually was Fury. Its
AI broke, and when Zodiac fell, it was captured.

The LMD was captured and escaped several times. The LMD, believing itself to be
the real Fury, began doing things the real Fury would do, stopping terrorist
threats. S.H.I.E.L.D. managed to capture the LMD again. A few days later, the
LMD was incinerated, or so it seemed.

After finishing the story, Fury is asked by Rogers to identify the uniform the
LMD was wearing. Fury says that he hasn't seen it before, to Steve's dismay.
Sharon then tells Fury to have his sources look into that uniform and to
contact them when they have something.

Five years ago, in the S.H.I.E.L.D. helicarrier, a mysterious man reactivates
the LMD and helps it escape. The man tells the LMD that he can help it get a
new life and its own name. The man names the LMD Max.

In the present, Max does some research about the Secret Avengers in the Shadow
Council headquarters. The mysterious man that helped Max escape, revealed to be
John Steele, tells Max that the Secret Avengers will need to be watched or
taken down if necessary.

MAX FURY: BRUCE WILLIS

Photobucket

JOHN STEELE was a soldier-hero of the Golden Age of comics. He first
appeared in “DARING MYSTERIES COMICS #1, JANUARY, 1940.
He was written, penciled and inked by the legendary Joe Simon.
He's a bad guy in the present!

JOHN STEELE: DAVID MORSE

DDD
DDD - 9/28/2010, 8:10 AM
Thanks Leee@, buddy!

I checked out your wonderful
B&W Punisher casting!

Awesome stuff! I left a comment there!

I'll probably be back to your casting

LucasMend
LucasMend - 9/28/2010, 9:31 AM
Wow man thats an awesome cast man!
Valley has always been my choice for Rogers, but well Evans got the role.
I gotta say Willis is perfect for Fury.
Loved your pick for War Machine, he would be the emotionally strong Rhodey.
Again great job man!

You picked the best option for Moon Knight, love it!
Rhys
Rhys - 9/28/2010, 2:19 PM
Awesome! :) Don't like Valley for Cap, I prefer Johansson over Beckinsale ANY day, and I HATE Padalecki for Nova, the rest are perfect!!! WILLIS as FURY!!!!! :D
Sever88
Sever88 - 9/28/2010, 2:34 PM
WHOA!!! great job man! Moon Knight choice is awesome! Finally someone suitable for MK
DDD
DDD - 9/28/2010, 2:56 PM
Thanx Lucaxmen@!

Yeah, I think Evans now looks like the young
Steve Rogers. Don't know what he will really
look like in the Cap uniform cuz no one has
actually seen it on him real clear yet!

But Valley was always my pic for Cap before I
jumped on the Ackles bandwagon for awhile cuz
Valley got too old to play the young Cap.
--Yup, I was one of the Ackles guys!-- LOL

Willis to me is the living embodiment of the
original Nick Fury! Don't like them messing
with the original, myself, with SLJ but SLJ
has grown on me! I still want the original
back tho'!

Yeah, I think 6'2" muscular tough-guy Cross
fits Rhodey better than Cheadle but they
couldn't have a 6'2" guy next to 5'9" RDJ,
just wouldn't have worked.

DDD
DDD - 9/28/2010, 3:09 PM
Thanx again Leee@!

Jeffrey Donovan is on USA channel's "BURN NOTICE",
with Bruce Campbell! It's a fantastic show...check
it out sometime. It's well worth your time and is an
extremely popular show on cable TV!

Jeffrey plays a C.I.A. agent who gets "burned" or
dumped out of the C.I.A. and is trying to find out
who did it to him and somehow get his C.I.A. job
back!

In the meantime he helps people with problems that
are too bad for the police to help them. Kind of a
spy-type P.I. who works outside of the law. He has
his old ex-FBI buddy helping him (Campbell), his
bomb & gun-crazy former Irish IRA ex girlfriend and
his mom! It's way cool and hilarious!
DDD
DDD - 9/28/2010, 3:15 PM
You're very welcome OPTIMUSPRIME114@!

Roday as O'Grady is perfect casting for
his form of Ant-man!

I was hoping you would like this! I did
the best I could per your request!

Yep, it's the old Steve Rogers with the
black-ops group mopping up stuff left over
from Osbourn's crooked mess!
DDD
DDD - 9/28/2010, 3:18 PM
Thank you very much DEADPOOL@, bud!

Yep, this SECRET AVENGERS line-up is a great one!
I agree, best in a long time!

The motley Crew dynamic works very well here!

DDD - 9/28/2010, 5:23 PM
Thankz Zemus@!

Nize avatar!
DDD
DDD - 9/28/2010, 5:31 PM
Thank You Anil@ my friend!

Yeah, Matt Bomer would be OK for Ryder
but I like Jared's acting on SUPERNATURAL
and I think it's OK.

Yes, this is some cool writing by Brubaker
but I really like the art in this book, too!
DDD
DDD - 9/28/2010, 5:38 PM
Thanx DanielThomas@!

I really don't like Johansson as Natalia!
She is just a wooden actor! All the really
cool stuff, such as the fights, was done
by her stunt double! Some amazing work
there in IM2! But I feel Johansson is just
all wrong for Natalia Romanova!

Yup, I can think of no one better for the
original Nick Fury than Mr. Willis!
DDD
DDD - 9/28/2010, 5:43 PM
Thank you Sever@!

I've been thinking of Jeffrey as MK for a long
time now! He's basically doing Moon Knight in
Burn Notice, just minus the hood and costume!
DDD
DDD - 9/28/2010, 5:55 PM
Thanks Tea@!

I don't see the problem with Mark's head like
you do! LOL

Looks like I struck lightning with Jeffrey
as MK! Most people here seem to like the pick!

I was apprehensive about my MK choice!
I thought people would either think it was just
OK or just plain hate it!

I'm really loving SECRET AVENGERS too just
like I loved X-men's black-ops group, X-FORCE.
But I truly love the new X-force the most! It's
bloody good fun!

Man, I just love Black-ops groups! They git to
do the crap you really wanna see done! No BS,
no restrictions, just gittin' the dirty, bloody
job done!
LOL
LEEE777
LEEE777 - 9/28/2010, 6:11 PM
DDD @ Cool cheers dude, I'll deff check that out!!
DDD
DDD - 9/28/2010, 7:12 PM
Leee@ yup!

Anil@, yup!

LOL

Leee@ you won't be disappointed unless
you don't like it! LOL
I for one love anything "The Mighty Bruce"
is in!

Anil@ you're right...reminiscent of
Deodato's Spidey work but I think
Brubaker & Deodato are both inspiring
one another here to do something a bit
greater!

A+ job here!

I really like how you've used pics of actors that look so similar to the character you've cast 'em for.
I really helps to sell it, I'm sure you know.

Mark Valley as for that version of Rogers is especially perfect.

Thanks a lot Ninja@!

I thought that's what casting is about. Getting
people for the parts who resemble the characters
from the comics or graphic novel.

I mean with novels and spec. scripts you only have
the brief description in the book or script and the
character can be played by almost anyone. But with
comics the characters have been drawn and illustrated
down to the details so there is no question what
they look like! They need actors who can convey the
character's personality but also looks like they do
in the illustrations. I just think that's a 'duh',
myself! LOL

But I get what you mean. Sometimes it's just murder
trying to get a pic of a particular actor that
resembles the illustrated comic book character.
LOL

Sometimes I just don't get it when Hollywood casting
directors choose actors that just don't fit the
comic character at all, both looks and personality,
such as Kate Bosworth for Superman Return's Lois
Lane! She was just ALL WRONG for Lois!

These people are professionally trained Casting
Directors and they do this? Just gives me a headache
sometimes! LOL

I'm gonna have to get into the "Heroic Age" comics and see what the hype is. Eh, there's websites where you can download comics.

Let me check your cast:

- I don't think Captain America ages as fast as you think. So I don't know if Chris Evans would transform into Mark Valley. I do know Valley is popular for the role. But I'm saving him for Cobalt Man (inspired by JoshW's "Civil War" fancast).
- Here's a suggestion for Valkyrie, if you will: Jaime King. I know you now have Strahovsky for Mockingbird, but if you want a new choice for Valkyrie ASAP, think of King.
- I could see Jon as Beast if Kelsey doesn't return. Though I have him as Punisher ("The Town"), while I recast Beast with Keifer Sutherland (he's younger, and sounds like Kelsey Grammer; there shouldn't be a big difference to moviegoers).
- We're stuck with Scarlett as Black Widow. I would've went with Milla Jovovich because, BONUS!, she's Russian.
- I don't see War Machine being recast unless Don Cheadle pulls a Terrence Howard and he winds up bowing out.
- James Roday would make an interesting Eric O'Grady. I was tickled by JoshW's choice, Paul Rudd. That depends on what age O'Grady is.
- I'm sort of saving Jeffrey Donovan for Rick Mason, seeing as there's a likeness there, and Mason also knows martial arts. BUT, if he WOULD play Moon Knight, c'est la vie.
- Oh, dude, Padalecki is probably too old to play Nova. I'm not saying he'd be perfectly cast, and chances are Richard Rider is a young adult during the Heroic Age comics. But if we were to start from Richard's origins, Garrett Hedlund would be tops.
- Nice shot-by-shot comparison of Sharon and Sienna. She would work, but I have her for Spitfire (possibly in an "Captain Britain and MI-13" cast because we're not gonna see any Invaders in "The First Avenger: Captain America"). Oddly enough, she was born the same year as Chris Evans, so I'm beaten. But I have Maggie Grace, since she's tall and that one shot of IMDB from "Faster" where she's holding a gun means she's ready to do action.
- I could probably see Ian McKellan play that role. That is, if he's allowed to do any roles if he quits "X-Men".
- I could get behind Archon.
- We're stuck with Ultimate Nick Fury. Bruce would've worked wonders, though.
- William Fichtner as Aloysius Thorndrake. There's a distinct likeness to both the actor and character, and he would own the role as well.
- Nice John Steele.
