Producer Peter Jackson confirmed that the rumor of Maguire playing Bilbo Baggins was just that a plain and simple just a rumor. Though he acknowledged that he and del Toro are fans of Tobey Maguire. The "Hobbit" staff is "currently auditioning for Bilbo" and they're "a month or two away from any announcements."
Well if they ever do decide to give Tobey the chance to play Bilbo, I think he is up to the task. Tobey does have good acting chops. Well here's me excited for the Hobbit. Hope they are on par with Jackson's LOTR.
