“Boop-oop-a-doop!” The depression-era cartoon sex symbol has never been the star of her own feature, but that's about to change as American Idol/ X Factor's Simon Cowell is teaming with Lego Movie animators to bring us “a music-driven hybrid animated comedy.”

Betty Boop Movie with Simon Cowell

Seemingly not content with ruining music, Simon Cowell has turned his attention to our beloved movies. Variety report that the X-Factor producer/judge is teaming with Lego Movie animators Animal Logic and Fleischer Studios to give the iconic Betty Boop her first big screen outing, in what's described as "a music-driven hybrid animated comedy.” Boop was created in 1930, and has since gone on to become something of a toon-sex symbol. Although she has never been the focus of er own movie, she did appear in Who Framed Roger Rabbit back in 1988. “Betty is an icon, and one of the biggest stars in the world – I’m thrilled to be working with her,” said Cowell. “Betty, I’ve worked with some serious divas but I think you could be the biggest of them all!” Chairman and CEO of Fleischer Studios mark Fleischer adds: “I am delighted to partner with Syco Entertainment and Animal Logic. Their energy, creativity and playfulness make them a perfect fit for Betty Boop.” The project still has no writer or director on board.
