STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS Set To Beat Thursday Night Previews Record

An early report from Deadline suggests that Star Wars: The Force Awakens will end up comfortably beating Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2's Thursday night previews record. Early estimates peg the Thursday night preview number for The Force Awakens at $50M-$55M.

According to Deadline, Star Wars: The Force Awakens looks set to break the Thursday night previews record with an estimated $50M-$55M gross. The current record-holder is Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 which made $43.5M in midnight previews back in 2011. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 also holds the biggest single-day opening of all-time with a gross of $91M on its first night. However, the estimated Thursday night preview number from Deadline suggests that Star Wars: The Force Awakens have a good shot at beating this box office record as well. The Thursday night preview gross is included in the Friday gross, so we very well might see Star Wars: The Force Awakens score a $100M opening day. Furthermore, it seems very likely that Star Wars: The Force Awakens will also break the record for the biggest opening weekend, a record that is currently held by Jurassic World which made $208.8M in its opening weekend back in June. We will not know if the record will fall before we get official numbers, but right now it looks very likely.

Thirty years after defeating the Galactic Empire, Han Solo (Harrison Ford) and his allies face a new threat from the evil Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) and his army of Stormtroopers.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens hits theaters December 18.
