3. JJ.Abrams (LOST. Mission Impossible III. Cloverfield. Star Trek.)
This guy is really starting to make me go "ga ga". He's clearly a man of great talent who has created an amazing array of spectacular films. "Star Trek" was the film that I think showed everyone that this guy is a force to be reckoned with.
2. George Lucas (American Grafitti. Star Wars Series. Indiana Jones Series.)
As soon as the world saw that Star Destroyer pop out in the first few minutes of "A New Hope," we all knew the world was never going to be the same. Of course we all know his achievements and how he changed film making forever. I will say this though: the less he's involved with directing the better the movie is. He's a great storyteller, but not the best director. Still, he's a man forever immortalized.
1. Christopher Nolan (Batman Begins. The Prestige. The Dark Knight. Inception)
Most undoubtedly a true storyteller and a fantastic director, Nolan has revived the Batman franchise and has given us not just the best Batman movies of all time, but also the best movies of all time. He has an amazing eye for spotting talented actors and pushing them to their greatest potential. I read a recent article about Chris talking about his films. He spoke about the importance of a strong story in any film. Bale also mentioned in an interview that he would return for a third Bat-Film if the story was good enough by saying: "You can't make a good movie without a good story." I love old movies, sometimes more than these new ones, because of how they tell a story rather than amaze us with effects. That's what many filmmakers today are loosing sight. Nolan, and a few others, is one of the few that realizes that it's not just the quality of the film or the dazzling effects, but the importance of a strong story. And that's why he's #1 in my book.
