Marvel Studios struck gold when they brought together Chris Evans' Captain America, Sebastatin Stan's Winter Soldier , and Anthony Mackie's Falcon in Captain America: The Winter Soldier.
The narrative possibilities involving this trio of characters could play out several different ways when using the comics as a reference and for the most part, Kevin Feige and co. have charted those narrative waters brilliantly with Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War, Endgame, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.
With Cap gone and Bucky and Sam going their separate ways to headline different franchises, it seemed like the band might be getting back together in Avengers: Doomsday but Mackie just raised a very concerning question in his most recent fan convention appearance at San Diego Comic-Con Málaga.
Marvel Studios never gives its cast the full script. In fact, Mackie had zero clue he was taking over the Captain America mantle in Endgame until Chris Evans literally pulled him aside and handed him the scene.
So when Evans, Mackie, and Sebastian Stan finally reunited on the set of Doomsday, the three immediately started comparing notes to piece together what was actually happening.
That's when Stan dropped a chill-inducing question: Which one of them is taking the fall this time?
Said Mackie, "Whenever Chris Evans and Sebastian Stan and I get together, it’s like a powwow, like, we’re boys in the corner hanging out, laughing, joking and talking about what’s happening. Then we stop, Sebastian looks at both of us and goes, ‘So, which one of us is gonna die?"
It’s a potentially ominous piece of foreshadowing that matches up perfectly with a rumor tearing through the internet right now. The word on the street is that Bucky might be the one meeting his end at the hands of Victor von Doom; a tragic sacrifice that finally forces Marvel’s fractured heroes to put aside their differences and team up to take down Robert Downey Jr.’s Doom once and for all.
In Avengers: Doomsday, beloved heroes from three distinct universes will be set on a deadly collision course and face an existential threat unlike anything they’ve ever encountered.
