Spider-Man: Brand New Day Chinese Promo Teases "Mysterious Villains" And Confirms New Superpower

A new Chinese promo for Spider-Man: Brand New Day has been released, with cast members Tom Holland and Sadie Sink dropping some intriguing hints about what's to come in the movie.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day is officially set for a Chinese release, and a new video sees Tom Holland, Zendaya, Sadie Sink, and Jacob Batalon bring audiences in the Middle Kingdom up to speed about what to expect from the movie.

Sink reveals that "Spider-Man faces challenges like never before, like mysterious villains appearing one after another." Could that be confirmation of a link between characters like The Scorpion, Boomerang, Tarantula, and The Hand?

Later, Holland added that Peter Parker "unlocks the super cool ability of organic web-shooters," confirming something we've suspected for a while now.

The 2002 Spider-Man movie was the first to introduce the idea of organic web-shooters, with the comics later following. That happened during a clash with the villainous Spider-Queen, who transformed the wall-crawler into an actual spider, leaving his powers changed in the aftermath.

"The Other" storyline would later double down on the mystical side of Spider-Man's powers, giving him an enhanced Spider-Sense and stingers in his wrists. That wasn't well-received, and Marvel Comics quickly moved on from the idea. In fact, during 2008's "Brand New Day" reboot, Spidey went back to using mechanical web-shooters, and that's been the case ever since.

The MCU heading down the organic web-shooter route is interesting, and both official and leaked footage have strongly hinted at that being far more powerful than Peter's web formula. So, expect it to change his fighting style more than what we saw on the page and in the movies led by Tobey Maguire.

Check out this new Chinese promo for Spider-Man: Brand New Day in the player below.

Following the record-breaking success of Spider-Man: No Way HomeSpider-Man: Brand New Day begins a brand new chapter for Peter Parker and Spider-Man. Four years have passed since the events of No Way Home, and Peter is now an adult and living alone after erasing himself and the memories of him from those he loves.

In a New York that no longer knows his name, he has devoted himself wholeheartedly to protecting his city as Spider-Man full-time. But as the demands on him grow, he is put under increasing pressure. This triggers an unexpected physical change that threatens his existence, while a strange wave of crime emerges - and gives rise to one of the most dangerous threats he has ever faced.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day's cast includes Tom Holland, Zendaya, Sadie, Jacob Batalon, Jon Bernthal, Tramell Tillman, Michael Mando, and Mark Ruffalo.

The movie is directed by Destin Daniel Cretton and written by Chris McKenna & Erik Sommers. The film is produced by Kevin Feige, Amy Pascal, Avi Arad and Rachel O'Connor.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day swings into theaters on July 31, 2026.

Sadie Sink is the Spider Queen(not my original idea, I just can’t remember which of my fellow Comicbookmovians replied to my comment a little while back and put it out there. That’s where the true credit goes) and NOT Jean Grey. Just a google lookup of who she is tells you her powers which just so happened to pan out with some of these rumors.

@WruceBayne - I’m starting to really lean towards Jean Grey…

Not just due to the powers but I feel with Spidey going through his own mutation , a mutant like Jean being in this makes thematic sense.

@TheVisionary25 - I’m definitely in the minority by saying “Jean Grey” is not in this movie and I understand why people believe she is:
1. The unmistakable red head
2. Telepathy shown in the trailer(even though we don’t actually see who’s using these powers.
3. Rumor that she’s a mutant.
4. The green and yellow color combination that she’s wearing… it’s a stretch but it does fit.
The reasons I do believe that Sink is the Spider Queen are:
1. She was the reason Peter had his organic web-shooters. Peter is getting that specific upgrade in the movie.
2. She transformed him in the comics. The trailer shows Peter going through some type of metamorphosis(eyes turning completely black). To be fair, that was out of context and could be a number of things: Venom Symbiote, dream sequence, hallucinations, we don’t yet.
3. Rumor that Sinks character takes control of the entire population of the city. Spider Queen does that exact thing in the comics.
4. The script for the X-men isn’t even finished so why would any of the characters be cast as of yet?
4a. To be fair, Black Panther was cast in Civil War and I’m not sure how far along the script for BP was when Boseman was cast.
I could be totally wrong and Sadie Sink is in fact playing Jean Grey but I just don’t believe she is.

@WruceBayne - I’m that Comicbookmovian. But I wouldn’t be surprised if Marvel was stupid enough to replace the Queen with Jean. They already did that with Wanda in MoM.

@WruceBayne - When the Queen transformed into a spider-monster she also had a green and yellow scheme. Also, the hoodie appeared tan-colored in the set photos and the first trailer.

@TheVisionary25 - The Queen is also a mutant with powers similar to Jean (telepathy and telekinesis).

In her very first appearance she send a psychic wave city that froze people (before she took control of them) but some were immune to it. The second trailer has a similar scene and shows that some are immune (Frank and some random guys running behind him).

@Gnostic - they’re sitting on gold, this plot has already been written AND IT WORKED for the most part. I hope Marvel doesn’t switch out Spider Queen for Jean. If I’m not mistaken, I read a rumor that Sinks character appears in Doomsday as an ally to Doom so if that’s true, then does that mean, if Sinks character is Jean that she’s a villain at the end on BND?

@WruceBayne - Well, the Queen was one of Doom’s barons in Secret Wars.

@Gnostic - SEE! That’s it! That’s who Sadie Sink is freakin playing! She’s playing Spider Queen. I’m convinced.

@WruceBayne - I’m also convinced, but not certain. As Silvermane said.

Interesting , that comment makes it sound like the amount of villains in this is an intentional plot point and that someone may be trying to distract Peter , kill him or wear him out…

Maybe it is Sadie’s character controlling some of them so Spidey’s focus can be there while she does what she wants to do?.

@TheVisionary25 - The Chinese synopsis suggests that the mysterious figure is secretly watching Peter as he fights the criminals. And trailer synopsis suggests that these crimes somehow makes them more powerful.

Hate organic webs so I hope it is temporary. There is so much more versatility, ingenuity, intellect, drama and suspense with webshooters running out fluid, breaking, needing to adjust the type of fluid the shooter itself for certain villians etc. Organic removes so many elements, wish they saved the "organic" for when he gets the symbiote and then back to normal when its gone....

@cjspade - Agreed but they just want to copy the Raimi trilogy for nostalgia points

@FireGunn - as long as it is temporary I can go with it, like the mutation and then it reverts back or something like that. Either way I am very excited for this movie and hope we start to see spidey in his prime from here on out

The worst part about "The Other" storyline was MARVEL'S unwillingness to commit and see it through. I LOVED that era of Spider-Man, and I haven't been more excited for a run since (save Superior Spider-Man).
