An IMAX Version Of Spider-Man: Brand New Day With Expanded 1.90:1 Ratio Has Leaked Online

Spider-Man: Brand New Day received a brief run in IMAX theaters in North America, but a full version of the movie in that expanded 1.90:1 ratio has now leaked online in its entirety.

If you own a Sony Bravia TV, then you'll be one of a fairly small percentage of people able to watch Spider-Man: Brand New Day in the 1.90:1 IMAX Aspect Ratio on Sony Pictures Core.

The standard Digital release is the expected widescreen format from theaters, and the movie being available in the expanded IMAX ratio is particularly meaningful to those overseas. While North America received a limited IMAX release for Spider-Man: Brand New Day, the vast majority of the world did not.

That makes Sony Pictures Core the only option, but given that it requires having a certain TV, for starters, that's easier said than done. Now, though, copies of this IMAX version of the movie have been leaked both on X and Torrent websites.

One version of the movie clocks in at a massive 80GB, though the 2160p image quality is obviously jaw-droppingly impressive. However, these are illegal downloads, and the only way to officially watch Spider-Man: Brand New Day in this way is on a Sony Bravia TV.

Why are fans so excited about an IMAX version being out in the wild? Well, the 1.90:1 ratio reveals about 26% more image vertically. That does make a difference, which is why IMAX is such a popular option for movies like The Odyssey and this December's Dune: Part Three.

In Spider-Man: Brand New Day, it's a Brand New Day for Peter Parker. Fighting crime full-time as Spider-Man in a world that doesn’t remember him—and the pressure of seeing his old friends move on without him—sparks a change in Peter that he may not have the power to control.

But that transformation might also be the only thing that can stop a shocking new threat to the city and those he loves - a powerful villain no one can even see. The world may have forgotten Peter Parker, but he hasn’t forgotten them.

In our review, we concluded by saying, "Spider-Man: Brand New Day is everything fans could want. Emotional, hilarious, and heartfelt, it’s an action-packed love letter to the comics and one of Spidey’s best big-screen adventures. Spider-Man has never been more amazing."

Spider-Man: Brand New Day is playing in theatres now. The movie is also available digitally and arrives on 4K UHD, Blu-ray, and DVD on December 15.

@dragon316 - I've been re-watching the FOX-MEN movies recently. In X3 - Jean killed Cyclops and Professor X. Not to mention a ton of people. I recall at the time people not liking the movie for one reason or another. But, this isn't the first time Jean went "heel" and turned bad in the movies. Look, I geeeet it... This isn't "my Jean from the comics." But I am really stuck on why people thought this didn't work. It should, I am not saying it will, but it should set up some great story telling for the future.

@AgentSmith - Except in THAT movie, which isn’t good either, Jean was possessed by the Phoenix Force.

I have never seen a movie in Imax, so I can't judge the theatrical experience, but as far as these screenshots go, I can't really see what value the extra pixels bring to the experience.
