Prime Video may have decided that Spider-Noir would be a one-and-done, but it sounds like we will be seeing a lot more Spider-Man-related shows on the streamer over the next few years.
Deadline originally reported that the Amazon-Sony TV collaboration will continue despite the cancellation, with "The two sides carrying on with development of multiple projects, with one of them said to be nearing a series order."
Now, The Ankler has shared some new details, including the writers behind the projects.
According to Lesley Goldberg, Sony Pictures Television and Prime Video are considering four different "Spider-Man Universe" scripts, with the goal of picking up at least one or two of those scripts.
We don't know which characters these scripts will focus on, but the writers include: American Born Chinese scribe Kelvin Yu, Emmy-nominated Better Call Saul and Pluribus writer Alison Tatlock, Ben Nedivi & Matt Wolpert, who are the co-creators of For All Mankind, and Megan McDonnell, who has previously worked on The Marvels and WandaVision.
Spider-Noir star Nicolas Cage recently shared his response to the cancellation.
"For me, one season is perfect, having said what I wanted to say with this dangerous, innovative, pop-art Spider-Man,” Cage said in a statement to Deadline, adding, “Onwards, upwards, inwards.”
Spider-Noir told a mostly self-contained story over 8 episodes. While there were enough unresolved threads to develop another season if the show had been renewed, it's understandable that Cage wouldn't be overly disappointed that the series will not continue.
What do you make of this news? Which Spider-Man characters would you like to see make their way to the small screen? Let us know in the comments.
Oren Uziel served as writer and executive producer on the show, with Into the Spider-Verse producers Phil Lord and Christopher Miller and former Sony boss Amy Pascal also on board as executive producers.
Uziel is known for penning romantic actioner The Lost City, along with the likes of 22 Jump Street, Mortal Kombat, and The Cloverfield Paradox. He also has writing credits on John Wick: Chapter 4 and the upcoming Borderlands video game adaptation.
Cage didn't reprise the role of Noir for the recent Across the Spider-Verse animated sequel, but is expected to return for the final film in the animated trilogy, Beyond the Spider-Verse.
Spider-Noir's cast also includes Lamorne Morris (New Girl), Li Jun Li (Sinners), Karen Rodriguez (The Hunting Wives), and Abraham Popoola (Atlas), with guest stars Lukas Haas, Cameron Britton, Cary Christopher, Michael Kostroff, Scott MacArthur, Joe Massingill, Whitney Rice, Amanda Schull, Andrew Caldwell, Amy Aquino, Andrew Robinson, and Kai Caster.
