With work progressing on James Gunn's Superman: Legacy, fans remain eager for more information about the movie which will launch DC Studios' new DCU.

Luckily, James Gunn continues to share updates with fans across his various social media channels. The latest update pertains to the Man of Tomorrow's age, a widely discussed topic since it was misreported that the filmmaker was looking to cast someone around the age of 25.

Actor David Corenswet is 31 tomorrow and, based on Gunn's comments below, Superman will be whatever age the movie's lead star is when they're shooting. That makes sense (we doubt the reboot will get too specific) but this is interesting on a couple of different levels.

Despite Gunn wanting a more youthful Clark Kent for the DCU, Corenswet will be two years older than Cavill was when he shot Man of Steel by the time Superman: Legacy begins filming. The actor is also only 9 years younger than his predecessor, though Gunn has been pretty insistent that he wanted someone under 40.

In other news, the filmmaker has also told fans songs like David Bowie's "Starman," "Kryptonite" by 3 Doors Down, "Superman" by Taylor Swift, "Superman" by Goldfinger, "Superman" by Eminem, and "Sunshine Superman" by Donovan will not be in the movie.

It seems they're all a bit on the nose for Gunn's liking and, in the case of "Starman," he told one fan that the fact it's so closely associated with the hero is, "One of the reasons I wouldn't use it (after being asked hundreds of times to use it for the past ten years in Guardians)."

"Superman: Legacy tells the story of Superman's journey to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing as Clark Kent of Smallville, Kansas," reads the movie's synopsis. "He is the embodiment of truth, justice and the American way, guided by human kindness in a world that sees kindness as old-fashioned."

Superman: Legacy is set to be released in theaters on July 11. 2025.
