Wonder Woman Writer Tapped By Paramount To Develop A New Transformers Movie

The Transformers franchise is coming back to theaters, and Paramount has just found a writer for a new take. Could this be what leads to Michael Bay stepping back behind the camera?

While Paramount has set out to acquire Warner Bros. and its catalogue of film and television properties, the studio is also hard at work on expanding its own franchises. Among them is Transformers, a $5 billion franchise in desperate need of an overhaul.

Michael Bay's movies, while critical flops, broke box office records. However, interest waned by the time 2017's Transformers: The Last Knight came along, and the series has made less money with each subsequent instalment (Bumblebee, Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, and Transformers One), despite far more positive reviews.

Now, The Wrap (via SFFGazette.com) is reporting that It: Welcome to Derry and Wonder Woman writer Jason Fuchs is penning an untitled Transformers movie for Paramount and Hasbro. Plot details are being kept under wraps, as is how it would fit into wider plans for the franchise.

Lorenzo di Bonaventura, Mark Vahradian, Michael Bay, Tom DeSanto and Don Murphy will produce, while Steven Spielberg and Hasbro Entertainment will executive produce.

Before getting too excited, it's worth noting that the studio has multiple takes on Transformers in the works. Jurassic World writer Derek Connolly is writing a Transformers/G.I. Joe crossover movie, while rumours about Bay stepping behind the camera for another Autobot vs. Decepticon explosion-fest persist.

Fuchs is also writing My Hero Academia for Netflix and Legendary, and also counts the It movies and Argylle among his credits. It's worth noting that he also penned a Lobo script, which Bay was once set to direct.

In 2022, Bay reflected on 2007's Transformers"The first one was scary. It was technology we didn’t know would work, and then it became very successful. It was the first time digital effects were that highly reflective, so it broke a lot of new ground."

"It was a fun experience," he added. "It made more than [$709 million], that’s a lot of movie tickets and a lot of people that have seen it."

However, Bay also acknowledged that he should have walked away when the going was good. "I made too many of them. Steven Spielberg said, 'Just stop at three.' And I said I’d stop. The studio begged me to do a fourth, and then that made a billion too. And then I said I’m gonna stop here. And they begged me again. I should have stopped. They were fun to do."

Only time will tell what becomes of Transformers, but moves are being made to bring the property back to theaters. Convincing moviegoers to buy a ticket won't be easy, but hiring Fuchs to pen the script feels like a good start.

Stay tuned for updates as we have them.

@epc1122 - first and third movies were the best ones and tbh yeah, be nice if we got Megan Fox back too

@Matchesz - no thanks. At the time, transformers 1 was amazing seeing the transformers come to life, but the stories and designs weren’t for me. I have all the movies bc I love transformers but I do get that the movies are a mess.

@Matchesz - I’d rather see a sequel to transformers one.

@epc1122 - they're messes but 1 and 3 were actually good entertaining movies, and 2 had that cool Optimus fight and theatre was laughing the entire movie, 4 & 5 was missing something from those i think it was Shia. I couldnt get into Transformers one

@Matchesz - if you look at the actual main idea of the transformer movies, the premises I think are pretty interesting. Just the final product had much to be desired. Starting with the designs. I don’t think it had to be like the original, but the designs were just too busy for me. I love origin movies and that last half hour of transformers one to me was epic.

Autobots on Earth-origin on earth
Optimus Dies and Returns
Optimus Betrayed
Return, Optimus/Bumblebee VS Clones
Optimus Evil

@epc1122 - Agreed the way they looked in the beginning of Bumblebee was perfect would like a film with them looking like that the whole time on earth but I admit I didnt mind and actually liked the more alien designs they went with but could have had more flat parts was all I wanted. I hate the fact they fked up Wheeljack 2/3 times. n u just remind me why i didnt like 4/5 as much

@Matchesz - agreed with the design from bumble. I was hoping we’d get more of that in rise of beasts but that movie was a letdown for me. I’d have to rewatch 4 and 5 again, I don’t remember them being good but don’t think they were terrible. I think 5 helped give me a really good nap lol. Agreed on wheeljacks design.

Michael Bay does not understand Transformers. I am sorry that he was the person tapped to do the 2007 film. Please do not let him anywhere near the franchise again.

One of the things those movies hit right had better be back - Peter Cullen

@Bucky74 - I personally want the beast wars characters done differently. I was so excited for the last movie and I personally was really let down bc the beast wars characters were barely in it. They barely said anything and I felt they didn’t have much to do. Love the beast wars characters and was so disappointed.

@epc1122 - It was more a regular Transformers movie than a Beast Wars film
epc1122
epc1122 - 6/11/2026, 9:44 PM
@Bucky74 - I was hoping they’d be integrated more. Cheetor and rhinox were side characters and they should have had rattrap in it. Not sure why they didn’t have Gary chalk who was the voice of Optimus primal in the cartoon. I think he wanted to do it too. Not sure why the director/producers didn’t want to go with him. It’s up to them, but I was disappointed. I get that it was a journey for prime, but even how he acted didn’t really fit. Should have had more of an exploration for why he was acting that way. It mentioned but I thought there could have been more. Some decent ideas, but again, I was disappointed. Did you like the movie?

@epc1122 - I tried to rewatch Beast Wars recently. Oooooof that animation is rough
epc1122
epc1122 - 6/12/2026, 8:41 AM
@Wahhvacado - I think the later seasons the animation improved. For me, I enjoyed the stories, characters, and the connection to g1. I loved seeing Optimus and megatron.

@epc1122 - For the most part. I’m a G 1 fan, so to me, the first one came the closest to capturing the OG cartoon (even though the actual Designs hit better and closer to the cartoon as time went on). What they did to Hot Rod in First Night or whatever that one was called was a travesty though. But it’s Batformers so you do have to go in with low expectations and hopefully, be surprised

@Bucky74 - I think I’m in the minority here but I enjoyed beast machines. I like how it’s almost a trilogy with g1, beast wars, and then beast machines. There was supposed to be another sequel series but it got canceled and it went to transformers armada. Do you have a favorite series? G1?
Bucky74
Bucky74 - 6/12/2026, 8:58 AM
@epc1122 - G1 and I love, LOVE the original cartoon movie. It was so well done. The music, animation, voice cast, and story of the chosen one “Hot Rod” who will use the power of the matrix until “All are one” (no more Autobots and Decepticons, just Transformors). holds up to this day.
epc1122
epc1122 - 6/12/2026, 9:25 AM
@Bucky74 - I love hot rod but admittedly wish he was a different color, was never a fan of orange. Maybe throw in some blue so he’s the heir to Optimus. What’s funny is people originally weren’t a fan of tftm bc of the death of Optimus and other popular characters. The movie was ahead of its time.
Bucky74
Bucky74 - 6/12/2026, 9:55 AM
@epc1122 - It really was! It’s like a sci fi space odyssey at times and really cool with an incredible soundtrack. Even the foreshadowing when Hot Rod catches the matrix as Optimus dies. So good! Red all the way for me for Hot Rod.
epc1122
epc1122 - 6/12/2026, 10:04 AM
@Bucky74 - I like the red and some flames would be cool, but some added blue could have been a nice nod to Optimus and the next in line lineage. Love the car though 👍

Lol what does Paramount need more to see that these movies are not making the money they used to be making?

And if Paramount was "smart" (LOL) after seeing MOTU's BO returns...it would be best just to scrap it.

So is that GI Joe - Transformers crossover happening?

I might just be getting old and stale, but I don’t see anyone frustrated that it’s taking too long.
bkmeijer1
bkmeijer1 - 6/12/2026, 2:33 AM
Why not just merge all those ideas. Have Bay direct a Transformers/GI Joe cross-over written by Connolly and Fuchs. Bay's movies are always army focused heavily anyway

@bkmeijer1 - I don’t care how bad or good live action or animated I want to see that happen

I think this property needs some time to heal. Michael Bay's movies have hurt the franchise as quick as it built it.
