Venom Video Game Leak Reveals Eddie Brock's Role, Playable Spider-Men, And Carnage Details

After reports that Insomniac Games is once again hard at work on Spider-Man 2 spin-off, Venom, a new leak claims to reveal more about what fans can expect from the long-delayed game.

A new batch of supposed details about Insomniac Games' long-rumoured Venom spin-off has surfaced, potentially offering insights into how the Wolverine developer plans to follow up on the symbiote's memorable appearance in Spider-Man 2.

We first learned of the game's existence after a massive Insomniac Games leak in 2023, which revealed the studio's plans for several still-unannounced Marvel projects.

Insomniac has yet to comment on plans for Venom, while the promised Spider-Man 2 DLC—set to introduce Carnage—never materialised. Following reports that Venom is still in the works, leaker @eXtas1stv claims to have learned more about what Marvel fans can expect from the Lethal Protector's spin-off.

Apparently, Eddie Brock will serve as the game's protagonist, marking a major departure from Spider-Man 2, where Harry Osborn was the villain's host. That allowed Insomniac to tell a story specifically connected to Peter Parker, but it received a mixed response.

Eddie may not be the only playable character either, as Peter Parker and Miles Morales are reportedly returning, with players able to switch between the three characters in real time.

The game may also expand the version of New York we've explored in previous instalments by introducing the Bronx and Staten Island as explorable locations. Combat is also said to be considerably more brutal, with Venom's abilities opening the door to additional grabs and finishers.

Another reported mechanic involves enemies infected by Carnage's symbiote. According to the leak, these enemies can infect the player, forcing them to perform a "perfect parry" to escape.

Interestingly, it sounds like Eddie's relationship with the Venom symbiote will focus more on coexistence rather than one character simply controlling the other. That's more in line with the comics, of course, which is what fans want after Insomniac has taken some big swings with the web-slinger's world that haven't always landed.

Finally, the game is reportedly expected to run for approximately 15-18 hours, putting it closer to the scale of Spider-Man: Miles Morales than a full-length numbered Spider-Man sequel.

Spider-Man 2 senior narrative director Jon Paquette previously said of a Venom game, "So, here's what we're doing. We're focused on 'Spider-Man 2,' and what we're gonna do is we're gonna wait to see how the fans react. We're gonna listen to the fans, and we're gonna ask ourselves, 'Okay, what do the fans really want?' We'll kind of talk about stuff after we've all had time to sleep and take vacations."

It's important to remember that none of these Venom details has been officially confirmed, meaning this is best taken with a pinch of salt for now.

I've not played these Marvel-Insomniac games yet, but I don't understand these absurd changes where Harry Osborn is Venom instead of Brock or where Wolverine has apparently... [SPOILERS FOR THE GAME]

..known Jean for years but the X-Men have not been formed yet. [/SPOILERS]

@SethBullock - Having played Wolverine I can safely say that Wolverinevand Jean have not known each other for years. In this game they've just met.

@CerealKiller1 - I read somewhere that he met her years before in a mission with the "Team-X" group, or something like that, but I guess that's not the case.

I still think that he should met her when he joins the X-Men and she is Cyclops' girlfriend. 🤷

Harry as Venom in Spider-Man 2 was interesting, but I really want Eddie Brock as Venom.
