THE BOYS Star Karl Urban Says Season 5 Will Feature "[SPOILERS] Right From The Get-Go"

Karl Urban (Billy Butcher) has once again teased some major character deaths very early on in the fifth and final season of Prime Video's The Boys...

The Boys is set to return for its fifth and final season on April 8, and it sounds like the notoriously depraved series is going to waste very little time in setting some major emotional stakes.

Star Karl Urban (Billy Butcher) has previously hinted that season 5 will have "some big hits early on," and the actor has now made it abundantly clear that "nobody is safe" - while including a little nod to his role as Johnny Cage in the upcoming Mortal Kombat II.

“Every season, but particularly this season, from episode one, you’re like, oh wow,” he tells Variety.Nobody is safe. Fatalities right from the get-go. Let’s go! Last season! It’s all on!”

According to the season 5 synopsis: "It’s Homelander’s world, completely subject to his erratic, egomaniacal whims. Hughie, Mother’s Milk, and Frenchie are imprisoned in a “Freedom Camp.” Annie struggles to mount a resistance against the overwhelming Supe force. Kimiko is nowhere to be found. But when Butcher reappears, ready and willing to use a virus that will wipe all Supes off the map, he sets in motion a chain of events that will forever change the world and everyone in it."

Surprising deaths doesn't necessarily mean we'll lose anyone from The Boys team itself - or at least, no longtime members - but fans should probably prepare to bid farewell to a few beloved characters before the season is over.

Potential spoilers follow.

In the comics, pretty much every major character aside from Hughie and Starlight dies, with Butcher ultimately becoming a full-blown villain and taking out most of his own team. The Prime Video series has never been a particularly faithful adaptation, however, so we can't see Kripke being quite so merciless.

Yes, Butcher did embrace his darker side in the season 4 finale, but if he does go down - and we'd say both him and Homelander checking out is a given - there will surely be some redemption involved.

In the season 4 finale, Homelander (Antony Starr) took one step closer to the Oval Office while enacting his plan to round up all anti-Supe protestors and confine them to prison camps. Hughie, Frenchie, Kimiko, and MM were captured, with Starlight and the now even more volatile and unpredictable Butcher still at large.

“There will probably be lots of deaths," Kripke said of the final season during a recent interview with Deadline. “There’s no guarantee of who’s gonna survive.” Nathan Mitchell (Black Noir) added: “There are some things that are coming in Season 5 that you’re not going to have in your bingo card.”

This crazy a$$ show has had its ups and downs, but overall, it's great insane fun viewing.

It's time for it to end. I hope it goes out with big epic psychotic bang.

@DocSpock - Yeah, the only problem I had was not even the show, I knew it would be an adaptation that "subverts expectations". Just the idea that this guy goes toe to toe with a man, a Superman, that's basically a Saiyan living on Earth, because of a yellow sun...cuz comics. Sentry, I could see it...Homelander, nah.

@TheRevelation - I've read your comment twice and still don't understand it. Superman gets his powers from a yellow sun, but Homelander doesn't. Am I missing something?
TheRevelation
TheRevelation - 2/18/2026, 11:29 AM
@elgaz - Well, my understanding is that Homelander was just engineered with good ol' American enginuity, but I could be wrong. I mean Supes really shouldn't ever run out of gas. Omni-Man and Homelander don't have that in the equation, so I could see that fight. Mark falls into the Gohan category for me because he's also a half-breed, but, plot wise, they definitely don the armor. I don't think they ever really get into how the powers work on the boys, what drives them in detail, other than Compound V.

"... big epic psychotic bang."

Wasn't that the title of some popular sitcom? Or an over-stuffed porno?

over-stuffed.. heh, heh 😏

Cool!!.

I will say that i think with the exception of Butcher who will likely die in a redemptive self sacrifice taking down Homelander , the rest of the Boys will survive with MM reuniting with his family , Kimiko & Frenchie getting their happy ending together aswell as Hughie and Starlight who might even adopt Ryan to teach him to be a good person who grows up to be a proper hero…

I’m honestly expecting the major deaths to be from the villains and supporting characters such as The Deep , Ashley , Firecracker etc.

Anyway , i have been a big fan of the show thus far so hope S5 wraps it up well!!.

Very much looking forward to this season. They really should be more intentional about creating a broader universe around these characters. I hope that Homelander survives and transitions to another related franchise. He is by far the most compelling character in this universe, thanks to the brilliant performance of Antony Starr.

@Forthas - I have a strong feeling he will survive because he’s just too good of a villain to kill off. They could easily market at least two more spinoff shows with his character alone. I think he will be mutilated suffering a similar fate to Stormfront. If he dies in sure it will be diabolical lol.

@Forthas - I'd love for him to be put in his place, maybe tortured a bit, and feeling powerless....however that could happen.

@SuperClark

I think the way it will end is that Homelander will kill everyone who is in the resistance and is a Supe except for Soldier Boy as well as everyone else (non-Supe) except Mothers Milk and Stan Edgar and his assistant Ashley Barret. In a final fight He will be depowered by Soldier Boy, but will ultimately be saved by his son who is the one that will kill Butcher and Soldier Boy to prevent Butcher from killing him with the virus. Then Homelander goes into hiding but soon discovers his powers can return if he consumes Compound V again.

They should set up the next series as Homelander trying to acquire compound V and a group of non-supes that is trying to stop him.

@Forthas - I edited (I'm off today). I wouldn't mind a little exposition, oddly enough, in this case. They explain the how, the why, but not necessairly the nature of how the powers actually work. What drives them. We just get, oh, this person is supposed to be Superman, Aquaman, Wonder Woman, etc. It's kinda why the Superman v Homelander fan stuff, now official I guess, falls flat for me. I'd much rather see Omni-Man fight Supes. I say him because Mark wouldn't bother, both were raised the right way...so the fight wouldn't really develop into anything, also he's a half-breed which either helps or hurts depending on the narrative/direction.

lazlodaytona - 2/18/2026, 11:35 AM
@PatchesOhulihan - that's all I've wanted since Homelander's first scene of this series.
Forthas
Forthas - 2/18/2026, 12:17 PM
@TheRevelation - I guess the people that make this show are not so interested in the what drives these characters. I think as a satire of Superman, Aquaman, Wonder Woman, etc... the point of the show is to demonstrate that people having all these powers does not make them immune to human deficiencies such as addiction, narcissism and in the case of Homelander abuse of power. I see what you mean, but I also can see how more exposition can distract from that overarching message.
TheRevelation
TheRevelation - 2/18/2026, 12:22 PM
@Forthas - Agreed. They're also been responsible for some of the best commercial ads I've seen in quite some time, so I dig it for that alone.

My prediction is A-train gets killed first episode. Kamiko gets killed off by the halfway point. I don’t know about mother’s milk because his arc is tied to soldier boy (seeking revenge). Starlight will die in the penultimate episode, does anyone know if Maeve will return or is that it for her character? Billy will die in the final episode. Hughie and frenchie will survive. I think the deep and sister sage will be the only survivors from the seven. Firecracker, homelander, black noir and any newbies will all die. Newman’s daughter and Stan Edgar will die too along with soldier boy. Ryan will survive guaranteed.

I'm glad they're coming to the end. Don't get me wrong, I like the show (I actually think it's better than the comics). I just think this works best as a finite story, and better not to overstay their welcome. It'll be interesting to see how the characters from Gen V figure in as well (are they going to do a season 3?). I'm really looking forward to this and hope they push it as gonzo as they can.
TheVisionary25
TheVisionary25 - 2/18/2026, 11:33 AM
@Patient2670 - I don’t think Gen V has been renewed for a S3 so probably not though they could be waiting for that after S5 ends.

The only projects we know about after this series is Vought Rising which is a period murder mystery show about the origins of Vought that stars Soldier Boy & Stormfront amongst others while there’s also the Boys: Mexico that’s in development.

I do agree with you that i feel they are ending at the right time given there’s only so much push & pull you can do with the conflict between The Boys & the Seven/Vought which has been the main focus of the show…

I also think it’s better then the comics too given it’s not completely depraved and nihilistic but actually has some heart and humanity to it atleast.
Apophis71
Apophis71 - 2/18/2026, 12:34 PM
@Patient2670 - Deffo better with a finite run and five seasons seems more than enough for that as much as I've loved it. Homelander is WAY too OP to stretch it out any more than that for the main show and too many would have too many issues if he was simply depowered but becomes PotUS for instance to drag it out any longer with less OP villains.

I'm not against spinoff shows however if they have a decent narrative to go with but only so far you can go with the main premise of The Boys itself especially when you look at the source material (which wasn't anywhere near as good as the adaption has been).
Patient2670
Patient2670 - 2/18/2026, 2:19 PM
@TheVisionary25 - The Voght Rising could be interesting. I'd have to wait and hear more oof what The Boys, Mexico actually is. If it's just the same thing in a different location- like some NCIS or Law & Order spin off, I probably won't be interrested.

As for the comics, I feel like Garth Ennis has some good ideas, but absolutely zero filter or focus. Preacher too. He seems to go for the shock value ofwr purpose. I wouldn't mind the Nihilism or depravity if they served real story purposes.
Patient2670
Patient2670 - 2/18/2026, 2:21 PM
@Apophis71 - I totally agree. I would be all in on another story within that universe, as long as there's a reason to tell one. I wouldn't just want more of the same, with different people.
Apophis71
Apophis71 - 2/18/2026, 2:32 PM
@Patient2670 - 2000AD and their various IP's/stories made depravity etc work in interesting ways, Nothing of what I've read from the author of The Boys did for me, all shock value with little substance or message beyond that, not even enough comedic appeal with his stuff IMO which was why I avoided the adaption completely till finally giving in when the second season was halfway through (glad I DID eventually check it out however)
Patient2670
Patient2670 - 2/18/2026, 2:46 PM
@Apophis71 - Sure. I definitely think that stuff can work well and be shocking. But not simply by virtue of being there. I think everything in a story needs to be there for better reason than just space filler. I even think you can tell a great story that's designed to provoke or shock, but it has to be compelling and cohesive. The show does much better with that than the comic.

Curious to see how it ends. They can't really mimic the comic ending (not exactly) anyway with the direction the TV show has taken, but I suspect Homelander's son may feature in some interpretation of it.

Super pumped for this. Season 4 was a easily the worst (not bad, just the worst of all 4) So I'm excited to see how this will all end and come to conclusion. I think they are going to basically kill everyone off except Hughie and maybe Starlite. Anthony Star really doesn't get the love he deserves for this role man. I would easily say one of the best performances in TV along with Tony Soprano and Walter White.

And he could have gotten there much earlier and won even Bigger - YUUUUUUGEEE!!!! (**accordion hands**)- if not for those radical Starlighters who hate America and your favorite Supe so much, and their steal the vote effort.

Luckily we've come back even STRONGER than before and are already making America and Vought Great Again from Day One!!!!!!

Thank you for your attention to this matter!!

As long as Homelander is physically brought to his knees, beaten, tortured, forced to endure the mental agony of every senseless killing before he is finally terminated.
More than anything, I want to see the look in his eyes when he realizes the fear of being broken and defeated. Knowing he's not at the top anymore and he's going to die.

Anything less than that then this show would be a complete failure.
