GAME OF THRONES Spin-Off SNOW Star Kit Harrington Explains Where We'll Find Jon In The Series

Game of Thrones alum Kit Harrington has shed some light on where we'll find Jon Snow in HBO's upcoming Snow spin-off, making it clear he's not in a good place after that divisive season 8 finale...

The last time we saw Jon Snow was in the divisive Game of Thrones finale, and his story ended with him returning to the Night's Watch. Leaving Westeros behind after killing Daenerys Targaryen, Jon embarked on what appeared to be a self-imposed exile, though that won't be where his story ends.

A sequel series is currently in the works, tentatively titled Snow, and there are lots of places that could take the fallen hero. Most interesting is the fact this would obviously be an original tale seeing as George R.R. Martin still hasn't finished his Song of Ice and Fire saga (never mind starting work on a follow-up).

Kit Harrington approached the author with this sequel idea and is clearly keen to continue telling Jon's story. During a recent convention appearance (via SFFGazette.com), the actor even shed some light on where the warrior's head is likely to be at following the traumatic events of the Game of Thrones finale.

"At the end of the show when we find him in that cell, he’s preparing to be beheaded and he wants to be," Harrington explained. "He’s done. The fact he goes to the Wall is the greatest gift and also the greatest curse."

"He’s got to go back up to the place with all this history and live out his life thinking about how he killed Dany, and live out his life thinking about Ygritte dying in his arms, and live out his life thinking about how he hung Olly, and live out his life thinking about all of this trauma, and that, that’s interesting."

Needless to say, we won't be following Jon beyond the Wall for some sort of happy ending. However, there's always a chance he can find redemption and get a better conclusion than what Game of Thrones offered. Harrington would add, "So I think where we leave him at the end of the show...we wanted some kind of little smile that things are okay. He’s not okay."

We've already seen a handful of Game of Thrones spin-offs fail to become a reality, so it will be interesting to see if Snow is among the shows that manage to make it past the finish line. However, if the huge success of House of the Dragon was any indication, fans remain heavily invested in this franchise even after the main show's divisive final season.

This is the GOT spin-off show that most interests me. I hope it’s another well earned coming of age story for the character, with a far better ending. I also want them to fully acknowledge how stupid the character was written in the final season, and play off that angle.

Where We'll Find Jon In The Series

I'm assuming somewhere with snow.

He should've killed the Night King and gotten the throne at the end. Or at least one of the two. Him getting neither was some bullshit.

Normally I'd be against someone continuing a story like this, The Last Crusade had a great ending for Indy and didn't need a follow up, Rocky 6 had a great end to Rocky and didn't need to continue in Creed, Rambo had a great end in Rambo 2008 and didn't need a follow up, this one though, I want Jon Snow to get a satisfying end after all he's endured in GOT.

@IronMan616 - That was the obvious choice. I'd go with him dying the most heroic death and his son/daughter becoming the promised ruler.

@IronMan616 - especially after HotD, it just feels pointless that we got neither. But maybe that's just an excuse, because I really wanted to see the Night King actually win and conquer Westeros.

I would be alright with this along as they incorporate elements from ASOIAF that were cut in GOT. Give me Val, the land of always winter,Ice Spiders, the 13th lord commander and the Corpes Queen.

@CurlyBill - that's actually a pretty good idea. I'm not familiar with the books, but it's always great to pull from existing lore

The show isnt even confirmed to go into production. And Kit Harington wasnt talking about this supposed new show. Misleading title from a well known hack.

@rebellion - yep, the original article even says in its opening paragraph that Harrington didn't comment on the possible Snow spinoff. When he said what he's quoted as saying in this article, he was specifically talking about how Jon was feeling at the end of Game of Thrones and said nothing about any possible spinoff.

@rebellion - THANK YOU!!!

It's so frustrating that people are convinced that this show has been greenlit when there has been no official confirmation from HBO. Until I see that HBO themselves announce it, it's all hearsay.

Jon Snow deserved better. So much potential of being both Stark and Targaryen wasted.

Unless it's written by GRRM himself it's going to be a hard pass for me. House of the Dragon was so good, even with the changes from the book, because he was so involved with it.

My 4 year old dog could have written a better final season than what we got.

He should have sat on the throne and been the ruler of 7 kingdoms.

But they f*cked up season finale.

So he'll be brooding even more?? Is that possible?

He has absolutely no reason to stay at the wall. His "sister" is queen of the north, and his "brother" is king in the south.

On another note, what army does Bran have?

bkmeijer1 - 12/14/2022, 6:04 PM
@KaioKen - the Iron Fleet? I know Dany kinda forgot about them (and I have too). Otherwise, I don't know.

Well, we'll find him at the Wall. That's for sure. Even though he should've sat on the throne, especially having Aegon's prophecy such a prominent plotpoint in HotD.

Still, I would've preferred it if the Night King actually won because the kingdoms were to busy with their game of thrones.

Do hope this show gets made though (regardless of how GoT ended), because Jon was by far my favourite part of GoT and really the only thing I wanna see continued.

Honestly, I would rather have a series that follows Arya's journey into parts unknown.

Tell me where I’ll find the black Knight instead, that’s all I care about when it comes to Harrington.
