As Charlie Cox Ponders MCU Future, Daredevil: Born Again Co-Star Sees Cancellation Leading To Heroes For Hire

Daredevil: Born Again will end with its upcoming third season, and while the news of its cancellation came as a shock to fans, Charlie Cox saw it coming.

In an interview with GamesRadar+, the actor confirmed the cast was given a heads-up in advance, despite reports they'd found out the morning the trades broke the story about the show ending.

"[There was] a little bit more planning and emotional support. We knew about it [this time]," Cox told the site during an interview at New York Comic Con. "We had a good sense [it was going to be cancelled]."

That's a stark contrast to Netflix's Daredevil. Season 4 had been in the works at the streamer. However, when Disney+ was announced, the company ended its relationship with Marvel Television and its MCU TV shows were cancelled one by one (Luke Cage, for example, ended on a still-unresolved cliffhanger).

The only good thing about Daredevil: Born Again ending is that it opens the door to Cox finally taking on a major role in a Marvel Studios movie. Asked about that, he replied, "Maybe this will open the door for that. We'll see."

Daredevil: Born Again plans to go out in style, as it will include a Defenders reunion, meaning Finn Jones finally reprises his role as Iron Fist alongside Mike Colter's Power Man and Krysten Ritter as Jessica Jones. In a separate conversation with Collider, the actor addressed the possibility of this ending leading to a new beginning for the Defenders or Heroes for Hire.

"Daredevil's a great show, and they've been doing that show for six seasons now, but what cancelling Daredevil may do is open up for a different kind of show, maybe with all of us in," Jones shared. "So that's possible, and we'll just have to see if the fans want it."

"The fans have to tune in; it's a viewership thing, you know? If the eyeballs are there, then the stories get told.  I know everyone loves these characters and loves the world that we work in, and we would love to continue to create more stories with these characters."

"Personally, I would love to see Heroes for Hire. Just gonna pitch that right now," he added. "I love working with Mike [Colter]. But yeah who knows? We'll see what happens."

Daredevil: Born Again Season 3's cast includes Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock/Daredevil, Vincent D’Onofrio as Wilson Fisk/Kingpin, Deborah Ann Woll as Karen Page, Wilson Bethel as Bullseye, Nikki M. James as Kirsten McDuffie, Margarita Levieva as Heather Glenn, Clark Johnson as Cherry, and Matthew Lillard as Mr. Charles.

Krysten Ritter, meanwhile, will return as Jessica Jones, alongside Mike Colter as Luke Cage, Finn Jones as Danny Rand/Iron Fist, and Elodie Yung as Elektra Natchios.

The series is expected to return to Disney+ next March.
