LUKE CAGE Star Mike Colter On Returning To The Yellow Shirt... Again

Colter discusses potentially returning to the role that made him popular with comic book fans on a recent podcast hosted by Boys II Men's Shawn Stockman!

After Luke Cage ended during the Netflix-Disney kerfuffle, Colter downplayed the idea of ever coming back. Especially since the last episode ended on a cliffhanger, he’s been asked dozens of times on whether he’d ever come back to the small screen. Discussions, debates, and rumors flared as fans wondered if the Defenders and their gritty and street-level stories would ever be considered canon by Disney. In various interviews, Colter always stated that he simply wanted to try different roles, leaving us fans with no hope. In one case, Colter even hinted that he’d allow the character to be played by a younger actor. This would seemingly change once Disney was able to reintroduced the Man Without Fear in a Spider-Man film and eventually, his own series.

As of late, Colter has dropped cryptic hints online and even guest-appeared alongside his former Netflix mates at cons. This is what he had to say recently about returning:

“Listen, I will say this… I’ve had conversations… and I’ll leave it at that.”

He continued, “I love the fans and I love that world. And so it’s been years now. So now like, I’m doing other projects, but now I think to myself, ‘I have some unfinished business there’…. I talked to Cheo [Hodari Coker] about it, [the] showrunner. I think Daredevil’s back… Jessica’s back… we’re in a better position to see this come into fruition faster then we think. Yeah, so, we’ll see.”

From the second season of Luke Cage, the character was left with the Mariah Stokes Harlem club, signifying that he was the new don in charge, avoiding a power vacuum in the criminal underground of New York. How Disney will handle this aspect of the character would be interesting to see. It’s possible that Disney abandons this plot point in its entirety, or we could see him evolve into a different direction. Especially with Kingpin as Mayor and his appetite to eliminate the heroes. This could be the most opportune time to have Luke Cage back on the streets as a Hero for Hire!

Sweet Christmas. Do you think Power Man will maybe have a cameo in the new Born Again series? Sound off in the comments and let me know!

Luke Cage is a Netflix-Marvel television series set in Harlem that centers on Luke Cage, a man who gains superhuman strength and unbreakable skin after a failed prison experiment. Because of his abilities, he is forced to leave his quiet life and fight for his home in Harlem.

Bring him back, he's more popular Marvel character than Jessica Jones.

@deamon - In the comics he is, but his Netflix version isn't. Normies prefer Jessica Jones to Luke Cage by a long shot.

@deamon - Agreed. He was great in the role. They have to keep him in that gold T though. That’s basically his modern superhero outfit.

@Vigor - i really think he will show up in S2 given they have said that the time gap for Jessica brings some cool surprises…

I’m guessing she may be with Luke now.

I do hope he returns, maybe he’ll appear towards the end of Born Again season 2. They could do a better job on a costume for him though, and the same for IronFist if and when he gets reintroduced.

Let’s be honest… the streets wanted [frick]in Luke back WAY more than Jessica.

Not because one is “better,” but because:

1. Luke Cage actually moved culture.
The yellow shirt, the Harlem identity, the hip-hop soundtrack, the barbershop scenes, Method Man… that show became a moment. Jessica Jones was critically acclaimed, yes, but Luke Cage had [frick]ing impact.

2. He had the clearest runway into the MCU.
• Harlem’s protector
• Kingpin now running NYC
• Heroes for Hire sitting RIGHT there
• A natural bridge to Daredevil, Spidey, and even the [frick]ing street-level Avengers

Jessica’s story was already tied off nicely. Luke’s ended on a cliffhanger that fans have been demanding closure on for almost a [frick]ing decade.

3. Colter has staying power.
He didn’t age out, his look still fits, and Marvel knows damn well he brings the physicality and presence they need right now on the street-level side.

And the audience [frick]ing loves him. Check ANY fan poll-Luke tops Jessica every [frick]ing time.
4. The “Defenders revival energy” has always centred on him and [frick]ing Matt.
If you ask fans which two Netflix characters MUST return, the answers are always:
✔️ Daredevil
✔️ Luke Cage
…then maybe Jessica.

5. And matey… if Marvel were smart, Heroes for Hire prints more money than ANOTHER trauma-driven detective noir ever [frick]ing will.

So yeah, people absolutely wanted Luke back first.

And the [frick]ing reaction today proves it.

For [frick]s sake.

@THEKENDOMAN - THEKENDOMAN speaks no lie. Cage before Jessica all day. I’d just like to see a more no nonsense take on Cage. Some time has passed since we last saw him so an adjustment in Colter’s take on the character could work great.

@Lokiwasright - This!!! He was just soft spoken and mute the entirety of his run on the character. I want to see some energy man.
WakandaFlex
WakandaFlex - 1/19/2026, 8:03 AM
@Lokiwasright - Agreed! That was my biggest critique of the show. That and he was pretty stiff in his action scenes. I always said that if they did a complete reboot of the character, they should consider Mehcad Brooks for LC.

I would love to have Mike Colter back as Luke Cage…

I know the guys busy with a new upcoming show from the creators of EVIL aswell as other projects but it would be nice to see him zip up the hoodie again so to speak.

I know he felt different then Comic Luke but i like this version’s stoic , reserved yet still charismatic & caring nature so I would love to see more sooner then later!!.

He needs to say "Sweet Christmas!" and thump the drinks machine, or else that isn't Luke.

Problem is that he is against the blaxplotation aspects of the character, yep they did a good job reworking alot of his world but id doesnt work When he is so neutered.
