PlayStation has released the launch trailer for Wolverine, revealing more about what to expect from the game ahead of its September 15 launch.
Bolivar Trask is firmly established as the game's big bad, with a pre-Mister Sinister Nathaniel Essex, Mystique, and Jean Grey among those who will fight by Logan's side. Sabretooth looks set to pose a major threat to the hero, as will some intriguing Sentinel variants.
The mutant-hunting robots will be both giant- and human-sized, meaning Wolverine can get up close and personal while slashing them to pieces. There are also plenty of human enemies, so the game won't lack blood when Wolvie cuts his foes down to size.
Insomniac Games developed Wolverine, after previously delivering Marvel hits like Spider-Man, Spider-Man: Miles Morales, and Spider-Man 2. Unlike those, this will be a linear story, without an open-world dynamic. It's also going to take some big swings with Marvel Comics lore if this final sneak peek is any indication.
The Flash alum Liam McIntyre, who plays Logan in the game, was recently asked by Deadline about following in Hugh Jackman's footsteps. "Everyone on Earth knows Hugh Jackman's Wolverine," he acknowledged, "as you should because he's phenomenal."
"What I’m really excited about for people now is that we get to tell a Wolverine story where you get to experience being Wolverine," the actor continued. "I know this combat’s going to be sick. I know the experience is going to be sick. But when you put that controller down, what do you feel? Are you going to feel something? Is it going to mean something?"
McIntyre added, "It was a real team effort. My face and a lot of his body and his work in there. So, together, I think we made a pretty sweet character."
From Insomniac Games, the developers of the critically acclaimed Marvel’s Spider-Man franchise, comes Wolverine, an all-new take on an iconic character, based on Marvel Comics.
In Wolverine, players become a living weapon. As he searches for answers about his past, Wolverine will do whatever it takes—unleashing brutal claw combat, violent rage, and relentless determination—to cut through the mystery of the man he used to be.
Developed in collaboration with Marvel Games and Sony Interactive Entertainment, Wolverine is coming to the PS5 on September 15.
