Breakout Obsession star Inde Navarrette wants to assure Marvel Comics fans that she's taking the role of Anna Marie aka Rogue, very seriously.
Navarrette is one of the leads in the MCU's upcoming X-Men reboot, set to hit cinemas after Avengers: Secret Wars hits reset on the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Rogue is way more than just super strength and power-stealing touch. She started out as a brash, complex villain that worked for Mystique before transforming into the heart and soul of the X-Men.
Over the years, she would go on to become a fiercely loyal, battle-tested leader who would tear down walls for her teammates.
Speaking to the LA Times, Navarette confirmed she's committed to bringing this complex character to life on screen, stating, "I’m doing everything humanly possible because I love that character. I’ve studied that character. I want to do it justice for myself, for Jake, for what they want to portray and also for what I as a fan want her to be like. I’m doing everything, exclamation point."
In a previous interview, Navarrette shared, "I grew up in Texas for a good majority of my life. So, honestly, those Southern women are really my favorite. Corpus Christi is the city, specifically. So I just remember, you know, the old Southern women that I really, really love. But, specifically, Mississippi, Rogue is from Mississippi. So, I'm really just — I want to go there. I really want to do her justice."\
Previously, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige stated, "There's been 10 great X-Men movies [but] there can be 100 more. There's sagas, upon sagas, with these comics that haven't been told yet. And that's great because the stories that inspired me to want to make these kinds of movies haven't been told yet. I'm quite excited about doing them."
The first X-Men movie set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) was initially teased by Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige on July 20, 2019, during the San Diego Comic-Con panel, and the core cast was officially unveiled on August 14, 2026, during Marvel Studios' Disney Entertainment Showcase at the D23 Expo.
The MCU's reboot is being directed by Jake Schreier. He previously directed the MCU film Thunderbolts*.
Beef creator Lee Sung Jin and The Bear co-showrunner Joanna Calo have taken over writing duties for the current draft. They stepped in to replace Michael Lesslie (The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes), who wrote the script's original version.
The film currently has a concrete release date of May 5, 2028.
X-Men mainstays Storm (Maya Boyd) and Rogue (Inde Navarrette) are set to appear alongside some of the original team members like Cyclops (Kit Connor), Marvel Girl/Jean Grey (Sadie Sink) and Angel (Asa German).
Rumor mongers are certain that the remaining members from the original 5 are also going to be cast soon, specifically Beast and Iceman. Furthermore, Marvel Studios is said to be looking to further differentiate its film from the X-Men films that came before by keeping Beast in his human look- meaning no blue fur; he'll just have the oversized hands and feet.
Additional rumors say Marvel is eyeing Percy Jackson star Logan Lerman and A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms' Peter Claffey as potential actors for Hank McCoy.
For Iceman, names that have surfaced include Jack Champion (Avatar: The Way of Water) and Connor Storrie (Heated Rivalry).
Set for release after Avengers: Secret Wars, the film will kick off Phase 7 of the MCU. Other films in this phase include Ghost Rider (July 28, 2028) and Black Panther III (December 15, 2028).
