X-Men: First Class Takes $21 Million Opening Day

On track with industry projections, X-Men: First Class achieves an expected, but not exceptional, first day total

Despite all the great buzz surrounding "X-Men: First Class", Vaughn's prequel can't escape the shadows of its predecessors. Resting at an extraordinary 91% on RottenTomatoes.com, this latest outing seemed like it would outpace Fox's humble weekend projection of $55 million. Certainly the poor quality of the last two installments have left the public a little wary of the superhero franchise.

Although, this film has already received great word of mouth, so it is sure to have a lasting impact at the box office...at least until the release of Warner Brothers sci-fi odyssey "Green Lantern".
