Chris Pratt spent years as Star-Lord in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but his grittiest role is officially back. The Terminal List Season 2 is now streaming on Prime Video, and Pratt is once again leading the charge as Navy SEAL Commander James Reece.
All eight episodes dropped today in more than 240 countries and territories, ending one of the longest waits between seasons on the streamer. Amazon's own coverage of the launch notes that Reece returns "nearly five years after the show's record-breaking debut."
Pratt's Most Personal Project
Pratt is more than the star here. He also executive produces the series through his company Indivisible Productions, and he has made it clear that this season means a lot to him.
"This season is a love letter to the special operations community," Pratt said in Prime Video's official announcement. "I'm incredibly proud of the journey we went on and what we were able to put on screen. It was a monumental effort by a lot of people over the course of many years, and I think you can feel that commitment in every frame."
He also described the season as more than a standard action show. "Yes, it's an action thriller, but there's also real beauty and poetry in it," Pratt explained, adding, "I couldn't be more proud of what we made."
It is a very different side of the actor than the one comic book fans know best. After wrapping up his run as Peter Quill in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 and voicing Mario in The Super Mario Bros. Movie, Pratt's return to Reece puts him back in a role with no quips and very little room for jokes.
A Cast Full Of Familiar Genre Faces
Comic book and genre fans will spot plenty of recognizable names in the Season 2 cast. Tom Hopper, best known as Luther in The Umbrella Academy, returns as Reece's loyal friend Raife Hastings. Gabriel Luna, who played Robbie Reyes, the Ghost Rider, in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and Tommy in The Last of Us, joins as Freddy Strain.
Olga Kurylenko is part of the expanded cast as well. MCU fans will remember her as Antonia Dreykov, aka Taskmaster, in Black Widow. She is joined by Arnold Vosloo, the iconic Imhotep from The Mummy, as well as Costa Ronin, Yul Vazquez, Martin Sensmeier, Shiraz Tzarfati, and Jeremy Bobb.
Returning Season 1 favorites include Constance Wu as journalist Katie Buranek, Dar Salim as Mohammed Farooq, and Luke Hemsworth as Jules Landry.
What Season 2 Is About
This season adapts True Believer, the second novel in Jack Carr's James Reece series. Prime Video's synopsis explains that Reece is searching for a new purpose after finishing his list, but when the CIA corners him, he has to clear his name by stopping a resurgent Al-Qaeda that has turned one of his former allies to its cause. The conspiracy he uncovers reaches from Moscow to Langley and connects to his own family's history.
The story sends Reece across the Indian Ocean, Africa, the Middle East, and Europe, giving the show a much larger, international scale than the first season's revenge plot.
The Team Behind The Camera
Showrunner David DiGilio returns to lead the writers' room, while Antoine Fuqua, the director behind Training Day and The Equalizer films, executive produces through Fuqua Films alongside Kat Samick. Carr, former Navy SEAL Jared Shaw, and former Army Ranger Max Adams are also executive producers, with Shaw and Adams overseeing the show's action and authenticity work. The series is produced by Amazon MGM Studios, MRC, and Civic Center Media.
The franchise has stayed busy despite the long gap. The prequel spinoff The Terminal List: Dark Wolf arrived in 2025 with Taylor Kitsch in the lead and Pratt in a supporting role, and Prime Video says the franchise has now drawn more than 100 million viewers worldwide.
Would you rather see Chris Pratt keep leading gritty action series like The Terminal List, or would you rather he return to the MCU as Star-Lord sooner than later?
