Avengers: Doomsday: 5 Biggest Concerns We Have About The Movie 2 Months Before Release

With Avengers: Doomsday just two months away, we're getting concerned about Marvel's next blockbuster. From missing heroes to a predictable ending, here are five potential problems.

Marvel Studios is assembling the Avengers, X-Men, and Fantastic Four for Avengers: Doomsday, but with the movie just two months away, we have some concerns about the MCU's next big-screen event.

From some glaring omissions in the cast and rumoured plans for Spider-Man and Wolverine to unresolved Multiverse Saga storylines, there are a few things that could stop this movie from being truly great. We're also worried that the team-ups won't quite live up to our expectations and that Doctor Doom's apparent victory could feel a little too familiar.

We're still hopeful that the Russo brothers have some surprises up their sleeves, but here are five of our biggest concerns about Avengers: Doomsday ahead of its December 18 release...

5. The Heroes Who Are Missing

Uploaded image

Marvel Studios has enlisted an impressive cast for Avengers: Doomsday, but clearly lacks some big names. We have the X-Men, but no Jean Grey or Storm, and an Avengers lineup that's somehow missing Hawkeye, Doctor Strange, and Vision, for example.

Unfortunately, after such a hit-and-miss Multiverse Saga, it's hard not to feel that Marvel Studios is leaving some of its biggest guns on the sidelines. We have some heavy-hitters like Steve Rogers, Thor, Cyclops, and the Fantastic Four, but some absences are hard to ignore.

We're expecting to be surprised, and there are already compelling hints that the Scarlet Witch and Hulk will factor into proceedings. Still, between the Infinity Saga and Multiverse Saga, it's hard not to notice that The Wasp, Star-Lord, Moon Knight, She-Hulk, and more are all MIA.

4. That Big Spider-Man/Wolverine Rumour

Uploaded image

If you were wondering why we didn't mention Spider-Man and Wolverine above, it's because of persistent rumours that the Tobey Maguire and Hugh Jackman Variants of those characters will kick off Avengers: Doomsday alongside Deadpool.

To show the consequences of the Incursions ravaging the Multiverse, we'll reportedly see a collision between the home of the X-Men and this web-slinger's world. The mutant team will reportedly destroy Spidey's world to save their own, leaving him to die alongside Logan.

There's chatter about them returning for Avengers: Secret Wars, but as cool as this battle will be, how much cooler would it be to see Wolverine teaming up with Captain America and for Spidey to fight alongside Thor and Mister Fantastic? This feels like a misstep, honestly.

3. The Team-Ups We Wanted May Not Happen

Uploaded image

We're getting a movie that brings together the Avengers, X-Men, and Fantastic Four, so it almost feels ungrateful not to be more hyped about seeing them standing side-by-side. However, Steve Rogers as "Regular-Dude" won't lead to the Captain America/Cyclops team-up we wanted.

With Robert Downey Jr. playing Doctor Doom instead of Iron Man, that means no Tony Stark and Reed Richards using their brain power together. We're also unlikely to see the Scarlet Witch cross paths with her father in the comics, Magneto, or a fun Spider-Man/Human Torch meeting.

These could all be to come, and there are bound to be some surprises. As we alluded to above, something is missing, whether it's Thor and Storm unleashing their combined powers or the original six Avengers meeting the "classic" X-Men roster from the 2000 movie.

2. Unresolved Multiverse Saga Plot Threads

Uploaded image

We didn't expect Avengers: Doomsday to reveal what happened to the Eternals or what Moon Knight being Jake Lockley means now, but one of the Multiverse Saga's biggest problems has been its abundance of dangling plot threads, and this movie can't possibly resolve all of them.

Jonathan Majors' time as Kang has ended, but are we really not going to touch on what became of the greatest threat to the Multiverse? Will the Scarlet Witch's fate remain unresolved? Are we moving on from Doctor Strange's Third Eye and America Chavez's ability to traverse dimensions?

It was never going to be possible to wrap everything up here, which speaks volumes about what has been a fairly messy era of storytelling. This jarring shift to focusing on Doctor Doom is going to lead to some inevitable frustrations, which hopefully don't derail the movie.

1. Do We Already Know The Ending?

Uploaded image

Putting aside all the plot leaks and potential spoilers, it's hard to shake the feeling that we know exactly how Avengers: Doomsday will end. Avengers: Infinity War shocked us all when Thanos won, but if Doom ultimately wins and creates Battleworld, well, it already feels a little familiar.

The bad guy winning again to set the stage for the next Avengers movie is basically what Marvel Studios and the Russos did with Infinity War and Endgame. It's a formula, and as excited as we are to explore Battleworld, this story is arguably coming a Saga too soon.

It's hard to criticise Marvel Studios for following the comics and adapting Jonathan Hickman and Esad Ribic's Secret Wars, but this feeling of predictability could diminish an otherwise great movie. We can only hope that Marvel Studios has found a compelling way to get us there.

My concern for this is that it will be just like one big tiktok trend that people will just be concerned with how many cameos and matchups they will see and not how rushed Doom will be handled here to be a compelling villain.

I just rewatched AoU (for Visionquest) and the quality in the production of that Avengers film shines. The Russos can only dream of such quality.

But hey, if the retards are satisfied with empty spectacle, then so be it, right?

@vectorsigma - Avengers 2 definitely underrated but Infinity war and Endgame totally deliver the goods too. Russos could pull a rabbit out of a hat with this one.

@Lucasberg - i know youve been always optimistic of things and i cant do that, lolz.

Look back at both the Russo Avengers films and compare that with the Whedon ones.

Not a single action set piece where they are saving bystanders or are set in highly populated areas. You know why is that? The Russos and their writers arent imaginative enough and cant bring that extra effort to choreograph people.

You want a fight, lets put it in an airport where people just magically disappear because of some writing decisions. Look back at all their MCU films and you should see this.

Now compare that with AoU, with the IM vs Hulk fight alone. People are actually there and Tony is playing real hero by trying to save everyone on top of facing the hulk. Imagination and effort used to make this fight compelling and look real.

The Russos arent capable of these kinds of choreographing. Theyll just mashnup the characters without thinking that theyve been too monotonous with their set pieces. Ive seen that Sentinel scene leak and it looks exactly like the Endgame blockings.

And in the era of AI, any idiot can set up such mashups.

If I have time, ill make an article about this. And i havent even touched the topic of "actors not being together". Only in the Whedon Avengers you will see everyone in the team actually interacting together.

So im getting myself ready for monotonous come Doomsday

@vectorsigma - That really is a legitimate point about the settings being conveniently isolated repeatedly.

What I enjoyed about the Russo movies most was the character work. Like they actually developed Steve Rogers once they got a hold of him. And the Infinity Saga rightly wrapped things up with Stark as the focal point (which was the necessary outcome)...I think they have proven storytelling instincts even if the action they produce does eventually end up being similarly flavored.

This list honestly feels like frustrations that the movie won't check every box a fan could think of

@Vigor - that’s what it is nowadays…

Fans don’t really complain about the thing they got but what they don’t get.
ObserverIO
ObserverIO - 10/19/2026, 1:20 PM
@Vigor - They checked every box last time (except for the non-canon TV stuf).

But it's a lot harder to stick the landing when you've got all the new characters in the MCU that the multiverse saga introduced in movies and tv, plus the netflix stuff which is now canon and also reference all the previous cinematic universes that haven't yet been referenced plus bringing back favorites we've already seen like Hugh and Tobey.

It's a lot. They are destined to fail.

Honestly, I'm not even worrie about most of what you listed here. I'm more worried that it will just be a good movie. We're now 20+ years into this universe (if you include X-Men and Tobey), and my main concern is that the script is mid, the actors are phoning in performances, and we get shotty CGI like we did with most of the multiverse saga.

I know they have stepped it up IMO with BND and even Thunderbolts and F4 compared to what came right before, but I just want it to be good. I am pulling for it and hope we're all mind blown come December though. Going to be hard to avoid the entire internet for a couple days though with the premiere on the 15th.

Is there a Kalshi for that?

@WhatIfRickJames - No. Kalshi disallows wagering on outcomes that are mathematical certainties.

This is just another bait and switch garbage from Marvel, i’m sure doom wins, some heroes die, and next movie the same heroes come back and doom is defeated and everything is fine and dandy again. I’ll see it when it’s on disney+ 👍

Who the eff is WE? Do you not even have the conviction to use the pronoun “I?”
Unless you’re saying that everyone at CBM feels this way, stop hiding behind “we.”

wait I'm sorry. We know how Doomsday will end because of Secret Wars storyline and Doom wins

But "WE" were shocked when Thanos won, like we didn't know how infinity war plays out in the comics? The snap is one of the most famous moments in comics we all knew what was coming, we just didn't know who would survive.
