The People vs. Gorilla Grodd Rumored To Introduce The DCU's Version Of The Flash

The Flash could be about to make his DCU debut in The People vs. Gorilla Grodd, with a new rumour hinting that Barry Allen will be introduced in the upcoming HBO Max mockumentary.

Many fans have questioned the decision to make the next DCU project after Man of Tomorrow a comedic TV series like The People vs. Gorilla Grodd. A little variety isn't a bad thing, but it's an unexpected addition to a slate that still hasn't released Paradise Lost and Booster Gold.

Set footage has surprised fans, as Grodd, a formidable, terrifying villain in the comics, was spotted singing and dancing. That's a stark contrast to Creature Commandos, where we saw him in a possible future conquering the Earth alongside Circe.

We may witness Grodd's descent into villainy here, but for that, the show arguably needs The Flash. The Scarlet Speedster was last seen being played by the controversial Ezra Miller in 2023's The Flash movie, which James Gunn hailed as one of the greatest films ever made.

While Miller almost certainly won't appear in the DCU, it sounds like the Fastest Man Alive might. Following rumours that Barry will be referenced in Man of Tomorrow, scooper James Mack has claimed that there's a "100%" chance that we'll meet The Flash in The People vs. Gorilla Grodd.

Perhaps the series will feature a glimpse at a previous clash between the hero and Grodd. Barry may even be among those who testify at the villain's trial. It could even be as simple as a red blur on the screen, with that bringing us one step closer to seeing a more comic-accurate take on The Flash.

This intel doesn't come from the most reliable source, so we'll have to wait and see. After Lanterns, there's also a chance that Barry is a veteran superhero, with the spotlight shifting to Wally West for future adventures.

The People v. Gorilla Grodd follows a superintelligent ape who is convicted of murdering his father, the King of Gorilla City. In an eight-part "true" crime docuseries, the Daily Planet's Jimmy Olsen reopens the case, investigating whether Gorilla Grodd was wrongly convicted in one of Metropolis' most famous murder trials.

The Max Original comedy stars Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, Jimmy Tatro as Gorilla Grodd, and Superman actors Beck Bennett as Steve Lombard, Mikaela Hoover as Cat Grant, and Wendell Pierce as Perry White.

The series also stars Mary Holland, Eduardo Franco, Arian Moayed, Dan Perrault, Andrew Leeds, and Tim Baltz. Their respective roles have not been revealed. Tony Yacenda and Dan Perrault will serve as showrunners, writers, and executive producers, with Yacenda set to direct all episodes. James Gunn and Peter Safran also serve as executive producers.

The People vs. Gorilla Grodd will likely premiere on HBO Max in 2027 or 2028.

@ProfessorWhy - Remember when Gunn once said before filming started on Clayface that you would feel Batman's presences in the movie even if Batman doesn't appear in it?He was full of shit then...you'd never know the movie was connected to Batman if it wasn't in Gotham.

What's the point? To persuade people to watch this crap? Why not you know actually make a Flash movie... Guess that's too easy (even though they never got one right)

@Urubrodi -

We just had a flash movie and it bombed. And it wasn’t good but it wasn’t that terrible. So if a mediocre flash movie bombed maybe it’s better to introduce him another way than with 100s of millions on the line right?

It’s almost a week and I’ve noticed a lack of articles about visionquest ratings and comic accuracy and love for the lore

@ShimmyShimmyYA - he’s trying to save his energy for the inevitable onslaught of Clayface articles about its box office etc.

@ShimmyShimmyYA - Josh’s DC use articles mostly follow the same predictable pattern of already treating his conclusion of its failure and gun/saffron not being fit for the job and leaving as an inevitable unfalsifiable fate, then taking any development with positive or negative and then selectively engaging with it to support sad conclusion.

Which is why when Lanterns took changes from being identical to the comic, he treated comic accuracy as something that’s inherently good yet is silent about Visionquest’s changes from the comics, and focus so much on the rating of Lanterms yet it is silent about Visionquest ratings.

This type of coverage is fine for the lowest common denominator that also enjoy doing posting about a universe they’re not fans of at all. The problem is that a lot of this audience also feels the same way about the MCU.

Perfectly said . Which is fine btw if we’re gonna keep it consistent , but because he has some weird personal gripe for the creative choices made despite a majority of people that aren’t internet bubbles liking them it’s become some mission of the site / him to shit on .

Is The Flash going to be punching Wet Azz Puzzy at Grodd in the show too?

“The People vs. Gorilla Grodd Rumored To Introduce The DCU's Version Of The Flash”…via an Easter egg mention in Daily Planet news article or in television commercial in the background of a random scene.

Meanwhile Dog Welder, Condiment King, Snowflame and Tattoo Man will make their first live action appearance in the DCU and will each have their own solo movies next year.

@BruceWayng - Ironically, a Section 8 animated series/tv show/movie would fit perfectly with Gunn’s “artistic sensibilities”

Thank God he's not doing anything stupid like make strong solo movies of individual characters and then bringing them together in a team up film.

@Batmangina - that would be too marvelous… he only wants the popcorn cheesiness of Marvel Studios, not the universe building.

Personally I like the idea of introducing the flash in a show rather than another giant overpriced film. The last film bombed but his tv show was beloved. Makes sense to introduce him in a fresh way.

i still do Not understand why this show was greenlight or even happening.... a bunch of d list characters no one gives a shit about. Grodd should be a main Flash villain and in a Flash show or movie... not this shit. Why bother using Grodd and the Flash in this crap when you should just make a Flash show instead?

It might as well, since Creature Commandos showed the character. I'd hope it wouldn't take years to get the live-action counterpart.

Cool if true…

I would love if we see a Flash in the show but I have a feeling we won’t though fingers crossed!!.

Also I fully expect that when we do get a Flash in this universe that it will be Wally West and not Barry Allen…

I think the latter will likely have had that mantle perhaps previously and is looking to pass it on or has already since it is a universe that has had metahumans for atleast 3 centuries so makes sense that we have had a Scarlet Speedster already!!.

We won't get Barry Allen Flash unless it's to give him the Hal Jordan treatment. Wally West will be our Kid Flash Flash. They have already flown that trial balloon.
