Russell Crowe In Talks To Star In NOAH

After previously being eyed for the lead role in Darren Aronofsky's Biblical epic Noah, actor Russell Crowe is now in talks to star in the film, which begins production this summer.

Earlier this month, it was reported that Darren Aronofsky was wanting Russell Crowe (Gladiator, Man Of Steel) to star in his Biblical epic Noah, which also has a graphic novel adaptation in the works. Now, Variety reports that the actor is now in negotiations to star in the film. If discussions go well, Crowe will play the Biblical figure best known for building an Ark so he and his family could survive a worldwide flood.

Variety notes that a deal is being worked on actively, prepping the movie for a July shoot. Aronofsky worked on the script with Ari Handel and John Logan, while Paramount/New Regency is distributing. Also reported a couple weeks ago was that Liam Neeson was being considered for a role (potentially the villainous role which was revealed a while ago); whether or not he will star alongside Crowe has yet to be determined. Check back for more casting news surrounding the movie soon.

Darren Aronofsky's Noah is planned to begin production this July, potentially for a Fall 2013 release.

So basically this will be like the film 2012. Should be great if handled correctly.

@Sorcerer123 I definitely agree, it's about time we see the age of the Biblical epic return. We have Noah coming, Dwayne Johnson's starring in Goliath, Spielberg's helming Gods & Kings (a Moses film)...if only Paradise Lost wasn't cancelled.

Evan Almighty is more of a comedy compared to what Aronofsky's planning. Really can't wait to see his vision for this story.

Hopefully people did pick up on the :-P in my post. ;-)

Not too interested in seeing biblical movies on the big screen. Don't care much for Russell Crowe so that doesn't help in this case.

Yeah, we haven't had a very good Biblical film since the 50s or so (Ten Commandments, Ben Hur, The Robe). There's been some solid films since then, like Passion Of The Christ and Jeremiah (the Patrick Dempsey film), but the Age of the Epic didn't seem to be present again until now.

I like Russell Crowe, and I think he's an interesting choice. I'm really looking forward to seeing Aronofsky helming a Biblical epic.

@SuspenseSmith: I agree. Realistically,PL ain't gonna happen though. We'll be lucky if Noah actually gets made. Gonna be a very expensive film, and tentpole flics have been bombing dramatically at b.o. this year, regardless o/t director. We can still dream though.
