Though nothing has been officially announced, trade reports have indicated that Marvel Studios might be planning to get cameras rolling on Avengers: Secret Wars early in the summer, maybe even as soon as next month.

With Avengers: Doomsday reshoots only wrapping quite recently, this always seemed ambitious, and one of the movie's stars now appears to have revealed that the Infinity Saga finale won't actually begin filming until closer to autumn.

During an interview with the Dog Day Afternoon social media team, The Fantastic Four: First Steps star Ebon Moss-Bachrach (The Thing) was asked why he decided to commit to the Broadway adaptation, which runs until mid-July, when he has Avengers: Secret Wars shooting in August.

"This play I've been working on for a couple of years, it's been really important for me to do this," he said of the timing. "Then everything kind of worked out."

This update has led to speculation that Secret Wars could wind up getting pushed back from its current December 17, 2027 release date, which does seem like a distinct possibility.

Doomsday filmed from April until September 2025, with reshoots taking place earlier this year. The movie is set to hit theatres this December. Assuming Secret Wars follows a similar shooting schedule and cameras don't start rolling until August, it would be well into 2028 before the film is released.

At any rate, we should get some more updates on Secret Wars' shooting schedule over the next few weeks.

Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars were hit with significant delays last year, with Doomsday now set to arrive in theaters on December 18, 2026, and Secret Wars positioned for December 17, 2027.

Both movies will be directed by the Russo brothers, who also make their MCU return after helming Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame.

"Being able to create stories and explore characters within the Marvel Universe fulfilled a life-long dream of ours, and we discovered a powerful connection with audiences in each film that we made. We’re thrilled to collaborate once again with Kevin, Lou and the entire Marvel team to bring this epic adventure in storytelling to new and surprising places for both the fans and ourselves”, said The Russos in a statement after the SDCC panel.

Doomsday will star:

Paul Rudd as Ant-Man, Simu Liu as Shang-Chi, Tom Hiddleston as Loki, Lewis Pullman as Sentry, Florence Pugh as Yelena, Danny Ramirez as Falcon, Ian McKellen as Magneto, Sebastian Stan as Bucky, Winston Duke as M’Baku, Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Kelsey Grammer as Beast, James Marsden as Cyclops, Channing Tatum as Gambit, and Wyatt Russell as U.S. Agent

Along with Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm, Rebecca Romijn as Mystique, Patrick Stewart as Professor X, Alan Cumming as Nightcrawler, Letitia Wright as Black Panther, Tenoch Huerta Mejia as Namor, Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards, Hannah John-Kamen as Ghost, Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm, David Harbour as Red Guardian, Ebon Moss-Bachrach as The Thing, Anthony Mackie as Captain America, and, of course, Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom.

@InfinitePunches -

Wars, climate, viruses (viri?), you name it.

Not to be taken in a cynical pseudointellectual nihilistic 'Rick & Morty' kid of way, but it's become an inescapable conclusion that it's a f#ckin' cosmic coincidence we even exist, let alone a miracle we've done so for this long.

Day by day we're inching closer to our extinction, and not for lack of trying.

@TemporarilyHere - I can definitely understand the gravitational pull of nihilism. I was deep in that pit for about ten years in my late teens and twenties. It's a daunting world in which we live, especially with the access to information we have that lets us see so much more suffering than the human psyche can really take.

But your use of the word "Miracle" is apropos, I believe.

After a lot of searching, the only conclusion I could come to was that there was some unseen Force at work that had humanity's interest at heart, otherwise, we'd have obliterated ourselves by now. And that was a stepping stone on the path to a Faith in Jesus that really opened my eyes.

There is a point to all of this. We all know it deep down.

@InfinitePunches -

I'm not one to take down another's faith, but I will say that I'm a New Testament kind of guy with Old Testament instincts, to put it mildly.

Forgiveness is a blessing, but only meant for those who genuinely believe in their heart of hearts to be themselves unworthy of it. The kind of "the best king is always the one who wishes not to be" approach.

We no longer ask. We demand. Therefore, we deserve oblivion.
InfinitePunches
InfinitePunches - 5/15/2026, 2:02 PM
@TemporarilyHere - Absolutely. Each of us deserves annihilation for the things we've done in defiance of a Holy God. And the fact that we've been offered a chance to be delivered from it is a treasure of such unfathomable scale that it breaks my heart when I see someone reject it.

Hope is the key. We are promised that everything will be made right in the end, despite the odds and the way things seem to be going. Like Gideon, we have to have faith that, as my dad used to say, "the Lord is still in the Miracle-making business."

I hope they delay the movie until 2039 or somewhere around there. After Doomsday disappoints the world, people are not going to watch the following shitty movie.

I'm not convinced yet if Ebon Moss-Bachrach is talking about when HE starts filming or when Secret Wars starts filming. Marvel Studios has mastered the ability to shoot around actor's schedules. Although, if Secret Wars is supposed to be a bigger movie than Doomsday, the earlier start the better to keep the December 2027 date. James Gunn would film his 'Guardians' films nearly a year & a half before release date. So, it's possible Secret Wars can get pushed into May 2028 & we'll probably get first word at SDCC if it happens. With that said, if Secret Wars gets pushed, I'm willing to bet Marvel will compensate with that news with future announcements, or castings of films we know they're working on; X-Men, Black Panther 3, maybe even a Ghost Rider casting for Midnight Sons.

Maybe it does get pushed back but even if Ebon is doing this play , he may not have a big role in Secret Wars (especially if Doom does to him what he did in the comic) so he doesn’t need to be throughout production…

Also I don’t think Marvel would want to wait any longer then they have to for their apparent soft rebooted universe to start after SW so at most , I could see this moving to May 2028 while X-Men or BP 3 is later in that year though I still think it will release in December 2027.

Anyway , we’ll see but let’s not put the cart before the horse because we still got Doomsday to go through so as of now I just hope that turns out well!!.

He could just start filming his bits later on, specially on the big team up movies Marvel is known to work around cast availability. The play clearly matters a ton to him, so he would fight to get the time to do it. His work is also technically even easier to accommodate since they could film a stand-in wearing the mocap suit, then do his lines and facial mocap afterwards. Shakman was pretty adamant on having the whole gang together for scenes, but the Russos hold no such sentimentality.

All that said, I do expect the film to be pushed to 2028 if only to give them more time to finish things. Like look at how much later they went back in for reshoots for Doomsday (very likely a cast schedule's thing), it makes sense to give SW a bit more runway than what it currently has.

This is not a surprise. This is a result of biting off more than you can chew. They rushed production and made a terrible casting decision for Doom. I’m a Marvel fan, but lately it’s been pretty bad. One Last Kill was surprisingly good, other than that, it’s all kinda fallen short of expectations.

They staggered the filming with people throughout Doomsday so that we wouldn’t know what the [frick] was going on or who was doing what. Many actors have already commented that while they hung out with other actors, they were shooting scenes with people missing and characters not even sure what characters they’re actually interacting with.

It’s more likely that HE just isn’t needed until later.

Also, mid July is like 6 weeks away. If they start filling at some point next month it’s like 2-3 weeks after they start. That in no way indicates a delay. Even if I think they’ll end up pushing it to a speing or sumemer release.

OH NO!!!

On a more serious note, please take as long as needed. I've been waiting on these movies since I quit reading comics in the early eighties, so I can wait longer (unless I die, then it won't matter: 😆.
