RESULTS: How Much Do You Think MARVEL'S THE AVENGERS Will Gross Worldwide?

Last week, we asked you how much you think Marvel's The Avengers will make in total at the worldwide box office. A little under 5000 of you ending up voting and the results...well, they're not exactly a big surprise!

Earlier today, we brought you the news that the Joss Whedon helmed superhero ensemble is expected to gross upwards of $585 million by Sunday, making an eventual total of $1 billion+ even more likely than we'd previously imagined. You guys must have seen this success coming, as over 53% of you decided that The Avengers will have no trouble crossing that landmark figure. Of course, how exactly over 100 of you came to the conclusion that the movie will fail to cross the £350M mark is another thing altogether...

STARRING:

Chris Evans as Steve Rogers/Captain America
Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark/Iron Man
Chris Hemsworth as Thor
Jeremy Renner as Clint Barton/Hawkeye
Scarlett Johansson as Natasha Ramanoff/Black Widow
Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner/Hulk
Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury
Clark Gregg as Agent Coulson
Cobie Smulders as Maria Hill
Tom Hiddleston as Loki

RELEASE DATE: April 26th, 2012. (UK) May 4th, 2012. (US)

The problem is that, from what I know, The Avengers won't be released in a lot of countries like Avatar or Titanic. That will hurt the box office.

if you guys realistically think the a's will gross 1b worldwide, then the dark knight rises will do five times as much..this is compared to how much more the dark knight did over say..iron man 2..or what was that other one? oh, yeah, john carter...and the other one, ummm xmen, first class...

This will be a billion dollar plus movie no doubt, but so will Batman. Fighting over it is pointless.
The toss up is Spider-Man , and I hope that does well
You guys should want all comics based movies to do well.
The more comic movies that do well, the more movie companies will dip into the huge pool of source material all comic publishers provide.

@ironman53 ..... I don't think batman will make as much as AVENGERS , it will do good coming from the success of dark knight but won't do as good as AVENGERS

this is a poll, by the top comments it looks like it made $1B+, which it wont, people only chose because they liked the movie not based on statistics and logic and reason

And I want all comic books movies to do good but marvel with AVENGERS just got everything right

LOL I love reading the comments on these articles. Perhaps a nearly twice a day update of the numbers is overkill (maybe, I personally like knowing how a movie is doing) but it really shows people's true colors as they progressively throw more shade as the week goes on. Lighten up guys. When a CBM smashes at the box office, it means the genre is still profitable, studios will continue making them and we all win. :-)

SetGecko is high as a kite. Avengers is better than all the Transformer films, every previous Marvel film, all DC movies, all Fox produced cbm's and it stomps one of the most entertaining sci-fi popcorn flicks of all time- Independence Day. Stop lying to yourself with that 7.5 rating. Easily a 9.5 with a .5 deduction based on 2 things I can't mention until it opens officially.

and it's a crying shame we americans have to wait like this. also, i'm not crazy about seeing movies in uber-crowded theaters with kids behind me kicking my seat and beeping phones and some mouth-breather sitting next to me eating from a bucket of popcorn the size of a garbage can

@Baron89 you shit for brains stop being an alpha male zombie. I saw this movie and gave it an 8.5. Not all of us are brainless lemmings ready to conform to what ever the masses are dictating at the time. Great movie and it deserves all the success. But it’s nothing more than pure popcorn. No more, no less.

it'll be great if it does do over a billion,but i believe it'll be between $850 - $950,000,000.

@colonoscopykid lol popcorn movie? That's a good thing! Even that guy at Wb said batman was looking amazing and that it looked like a great popcorn flick and isn't that why we go to movie theaters? To get entertained? Now kneel to the AVENGERS!!! Lol

superbatspiderman - 5/2/2012, 6:48 PM
I would say 1 billion definitely. It has already made almost 300 million overseas all it needs is the American boost. If Transformers 3 and Pirates 4 can make 1 bil then this can.
Halfcharredwhiteman
Halfcharredwhiteman - 5/2/2012, 6:54 PM
Based on the trending from other smaller markets this movie will make 1 Billion easy perhaps the fastest movie to 1 billion. The last move with this kind of hype was avatar we had to literally buy tickets for IMAX one week in advance because it all got pre-sold out!
Halfcharredwhiteman
Halfcharredwhiteman - 5/2/2012, 6:57 PM
We'll see with TDKR. The movie doesn't enjoy the hype that TDK had with HL's untimely death. To be perfectly honest it doesn't have a solid selling point. The selling point of Bruce Wayne dying at the end won't appeal to a wider audience unfortunately. And the thing about the Avengers is that its the type of movie that you would like to see over and over again! I've seen in twice already and I want to see it again, a Fan boy's dream made a reality!
