A Promising Update On BATMAN: THE BRAVE AND THE BOLD Emerges From DC Studios' Co-CEO James Gunn

Could The Brave and the Bold be the next DC Studios project to officially receive the greenlight from DC Studios? Could we have two Batman films in production at the same time?

Continuing with more from James Gunn and his chat with YMH Studios, the DC Studios co-CEO provided a very promising update on the status of Batman: The Brave and the Bold.

"None of those things are important to me," said Gunn when he was asked if Batman would have a gray and blue costume or white eyes on his cowl in The Brave and the Bold. "What matters is the Character and The Story and I think we have a really really good Story now for what's happening with Batman."

With Gunn repeatedly hammering home that he doesn't like to officially greenlight projects without a script that he loves, given his glowing comments about the Damien Wayne-focused film, perhaps this will be the next film dated for release within the DCU?

Director Andy Muschietti (The DCEU's Flash movie) continues to attend DC Studios red carpet events, so it seems safe to assume that he's still attached to direct The Brave and the Bold.

Gunn revealed that Muschietti would be helming the project six months after he first rolled out the Chapter 1: Gods and Monsters slate in January 2023 and has given little indication since then that anything has changed.

During that slate announcement in January 2023, Gunn described the The Brave and the Bold as, "the introduction of Batman and his actual son, Damian Wayne. This is based on Grant Morrison's great comic book run. Damian Wayne is my favorite Robin. Batman tries to get him to get in line, this is the beginning of the Bat-family in the DCU."

The Batman: Part II, is currently scheduled for release on October 1, 2027. If Gunn gives the greenlight to the DCU's Batman film soon, it could potentially target a 2028 release date and have production time overlap with the Matt Reeves-directed sequel.

I love throwing shade as well.

How's this for "shade"

The Man who is an Ant just had it's WW gross taken out by The Fantastic Flop.

Now go [frick] yourself, respectfully

Finally, some traction on the DCU Batman. Obviously the most important thing is the story makes sense and is well written. But a grey and blue suit with white eyes would go very far in distinguishing the DCU Batman from all the others that came before him.

Cool!!.

Also he’s right to an extent , I don’t know if I would it doesn’t really matter but costume & all that is secondary to character and story because if you don’t find those compelling/engaging then it doesn’t matter how Batman [frick]ing looks imo.

Anyway , glad to hear that he’s really happy with the story of Brave & The Bold so I hope we start to get more details about it soon…

I doubt it happens since he’s a villain that likely works best for a sequel once Bruce & Damian’s relationship is established but I do hope we get Nobody in this or atleast in the near future!!.

@MCUKnight11 - I would be interested to see if we get all the Robins in this universe or will he have toomit some…

I guess it depends on the age they go for with Bruce.

He’s absolutely right. The story is far more important but I do care what he looks like. I would love to see the white eyes, but if they go with blue and gray, I would want to see a very, very dark blue not like the blue that he used to have in the comics, or does he have it again now? I can’t keep up.

WalletsClosed - 9/22/2025, 6:12 PM
He's saying that because all of his suits look like garish parody garbage. Maybe it SHOULD matter to him. Design is important no matter what he thinks!

Reboot the MCU and DCU

@WalletsClosed - If story matter to this dude then Superman would had one.Sadly not only did Gunn produced a goofy looking Superman ...he produced a goofy Superman.I have no idea why folks think this dude will produce good Superman/Batman scripts...he doesn't have type of talent...we know what we'll get with Gunn.

This next Superman movie will be a goofy good cop/bad movie with a Brainic who will be Gunn's version of the High Evolutionary. He'll come to earth an in prison the dog and all the animals of earth.

As much as I believe Reeves is making the operatic/cinema experience driven Batman. A part of me yearns for fantastical elements that we've never seen before. The Snyderverse touched the surface of these elements but it was orchestrated in a so-so manner.

If anyone ever gets the chance to look up Ben Affleck's original Batman solo flick script/pitch it was amazing. Street fights all throughout Gotham with Slade and eveb him being stuck in Arkham Asylum with all of his villain gallery.

I really want one of these directors to tackle the Court of Owls, Under the Red Hood/Hush and maybe even an Arkham Asylum themed threequel to wrap everything up.

He's right, there's no use in bothering with what the costume would look like at this stage of production. That will come when the director, DC heads and the art team get together and see what works best for their take on Batman.

TheVisionary25 - 9/22/2025, 7:49 PM
@1stDalek - exactly

Gunn maybe the head but he’s also a filmmaker so he would want to give other creatives the chance to put their stamp and give their input aswell

I really love what I'm hearing about this so far. It seems like it'll have all aspects of batman in it, and not just the realistic aspect.
McMurdo
McMurdo - 9/22/2025, 8:45 PM
@TheJok3r - I mean for the record its been mostly nothing. We know basically nothing. It's just James saying whatever. We don't even have a named writer for who knows why.
TheJok3r
TheJok3r - 9/22/2025, 9:18 PM
@McMurdo - What we do know is that unlike Nolan and Reeves, Gunn isn't afraid to explore other aspects of Batman beyond the realistic one. It may not be anything specific like who the villain will be, but it's a good indicator that we're finally going to get a comic-accurate Batman on screen. I love Nolan and Reeves' versions of the character just as much as anyone, but there's no denying that they only covered a very limited aspect of the character's mythology.
McMurdo
McMurdo - 9/23/2025, 2:58 PM
@TheJok3r - yeah thats true. Im confident we will get the master detective, master combat technician from the comics. Thats how you make him stand out. Make him the Sherlock/tactician he is in the comics.
