Warner Bros. has shaken up its release calendar, moving DC Studios and Swaybox's Dynamic Duo from its previously announced June 30, 2028 slot.
According to Deadline, it's been pushed back to September 22, 2028. Why? Well, the trade's sources have learned that Warner Bros. feels "this will be a good back-to-school animated feature slot for not just K-12 but also teens and college kids. The movie has the potential to hit the Spider-Verse crowd."
It also keeps Dynamic Duo away from Paramount Pictures' highly anticipated Call of Duty movie, which is also dated for June 30. It's not the only Warner Bros. title on the move, as Chris Columbus' new Gremlins has moved from November 19, 2027, to October 6, 2028.
The trade has also confirmed that Dynamic Duo will star Mason Thames as Dick Grayson, Logan Kim as Jason Todd, Lee Pace as Red Hood One, and Steve Buscemi as Red Hood Two.
Swaybox Studios uses an innovative "Momo animation" that blends CGI, practical stop-motion elements, and live-action performances to create a new style of animation that's vastly different from what we're used to seeing on screen.
In the comics, Dick was the first to hold the Robin mantle before leaving Batman's side to become Nightwing. He was taken in as Bruce Wayne's ward after his parents, acrobats, the Flying Graysons, were killed by gangsters.
As for Jason, Batman found him attempting to steal one of the Batmobile's wheels and took the boy under his wing. Jason was never the obedient son Dick was and ended up being killed by the Joker. However, he'd later rise from the dead as the violent vigilante Red Hood.
Warner Bros. Animation revealed at the 2026 Annecy International Animation Film Festival that the Dynamic Duo "follows Jason [and] Dick as [a couple] of street rats who name themselves the 'dynamic duo.'" Eventually, they go their separate ways, with Dick joining Batman as Robin and Jason becoming a member of the Red Hood gang.
"Over the moon excited to announce the newest DC Studios/Warner Bros Pictures Animation greenlit film for theaters, Dynamic Duo, the story of Robin...or should I say, Robins, as in Dick Grayson and Jason Todd," Gunn said when then movie was announced in 2024. "The first feature film from the visionary Swaybox, a mix of animation, puppetry, and CGI, a script from the wonderfully talented Matt Aldrich, produced with our partners at Matt Reeves’ 6th and Idaho. This is something special."
Dynamic Duo is set to be released in theaters on June 30, 2028 September 22, 2028.
