Check out these Batman Begins pics (below) from the latest issue of Entertainment Weekly that just hit the newsstands. An accompanying article is part of the magazine's annual Summer Movie Preview and features Christian Bale as Batman on the cover. It also previews Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith, War of the Worlds and other summer flicks.

Here’s highlights from the article:

  • Director Chris Nolan is feeling the pressure to not mess up the Batman franchise (as many argue Joel Schumacher did). After leaving another interview (not with EW), he said the first question he was asked was "The whole greatest American icon of the past 100 years, am I going to f— it all up question."
  • The article details the background of Warner Bros.' decision to return Batman to the big screen, saying momentum began building in the late '90s and early '00s with the success of the animated Batman TV shows.
  • Nolan pitched his idea of Batman to the studio as "just a regular guy who does a lot of press ups. He makes himself extraordinary through force of will."
  • Bale made fun of himself in the Batsuit: "I felt like a fool just standing there in a Batsuit, chatting and having coffee. You look like a drunken partygoer at Halloween."
  • The article outlines casting decisions, the design of the Batsuit and the Batmobile and other main characters.
Batman Begins premieres June 17.
