Apple TV's Silo series is coming to an end next year with its fourth and final season, but that may not mark the end of the franchise.
According to reliable insider Sigmund Judge (via SFFGazette), Apple is working on a spin-off series to Silo with pre-production possibly beginning later this year.
The spin-off is said to be based on Hugh Howey's upcoming Silo 40 book trilogy, which is expected to release next summer. But there are still plenty of reasons to be skeptical of the report, including pushback from Howey himself.
A bit of context, the current Silo TV series is based on Howey's original trilogy, consisting of the novels Wool, Shift, and Dust. While the Apple TV adaptation began primarily with the events of Wool, later seasons have incorporated material from the other books.
Silo 40 is said to span events from before Wool through the aftermath of Dust. But Howey recently revealed in a Reddit AMA that he's still working on the trilogy, which puts the timeline of this spin-off series in question. Could Apple already be developing a series based on a trilogy of books that aren't even out yet?
Apple TV has not officially announced any plans for spin-off, and even Hugh Howey is denying the claim.
"Yo, this is news to me. So probably not true," Howey said in response to the rumor.
Now, Howey could simply be trying to keep the project a surprise, but Judge remains confident that a sequel series is in development. In a follow-up comment, he noted that some of the main sets used for Silo were left standing after Season 4 wrapped in March. He also claimed that Apple has already begun hiring for the new project.
Silo follows the last 10,000 people on Earth, living underground to escape a toxic world above. Nobody knows why the silo exists, and asking too many questions can get you killed.
Rebecca Ferguson plays Juliette, an engineer who starts digging for answers after a personal loss, and uncovers way bigger secrets about the silo and the world outside.
Season 3 jumps back centuries to the "Before Times" while still following Juliette in the present, adding journalist Helen Drew (Jessica Henwick) and Congressman Daniel Keene (Ashley Zukerman), who are caught up in the conspiracy behind it all.
Apple has already announced Silo Season 4 will premiere on July 9, 2027, bringing the dystopian drama to a close.
