The Batman took some big swings with the Dark Knight's mythos in 2022, but could Matt Reeves' upcoming sequel turn Bruce Wayne's world completely on its head?
There are already some wild theories online about the child we've seen on set potentially being Bruce's son and a new take on Robin. Meanwhile, potential villains have been named as everyone from Two-Face to Phantasm, The Court of Owls, and Victor Zsasz.
In a new interview, Robert Pattinson has teased Reeves' plans for Batman, and it sounds like we should brace ourselves for a bold new take on the Caped Crusader in this Elseworlds tale.
"It's just amazing," the actor says in the video below. "It’s quite a radical change to the script, and it’s cool that [WB] are behind it and DC. It’s just crazy. I think [Matt Reeves] is the only person who anyone would allow to do it because it’s, like, a really radical retelling of Batman. I think that people will be excited by it."
It sounds like something big is coming that won't necessarily line up with the comics. That always risks being controversial, though Reeves has earned the trust of fans after The Batman and The Penguin.
As a reminder, the filmmaker previously said that The Batman Part II does "something that pushes even further into the character of Bruce Wayne" and teased that his approach to the sequel's villain has "never really been done in a movie before."
What that means remains to be seen. What we do know from set photos is that Batman will battle the GCPD and that he's going to be left in mortal peril before Alfred Pennyworth steps in. Filming has, for now, wrapped in Glasgow, so it's unclear how much more we'll see from the movie ahead of its release in 2028 (which feels like a long time from now).

The Batman Part II is set to be released in theaters on February 18, 2028.
