THE BATMAN PART II Said To Be Starting Production Sooner Than Expected; Will Film In Glasgow And Liverpool

There appears to be a promising update on The Batman Part II, as it’s being reported the sequel will be rolling cameras sooner than was originally anticipated.

The road to getting a sequel to 2022's The Batman has been complex and long. Fortunately, the film is finally taking shape under the watchful eye of returning director Matt Reeves. Starring Robert Pattinson, Bruce Wayne's latest standalone adventure is slated to release in 2027, which means cameras are expected to start rolling in 2026. Back in August, Productionlist.com reported that shooting would commence on January 1, 2026.

However, also in August, Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav stated in a letter to shareholders that The Batman Part II would start shooting in spring of next year. Now, though, a new piece of information seems to point to the long-delayed sequel actually starting production much sooner than stated by the executive. According to Glasgow World, filming on the movie is, indeed, expected to kick off in January 2026. It's worth mentioning, however, that it's possible the outlet got its information from Productionlist.com's aforementioned report.

Per Glasgow World, while The Batman Part II will be mainly shoot at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden, Glasgow and Liverpool will be used for exterior shots of Gotham City. The site also brought up The Batman Part II production designer Luke Hull reportedly scouting locations in Scotland, someo of which he has seemingly shared on Instagram:

Assuming the report is accurate, filming for the sequel starting earlier than anticipated is unlikely to have an effect on the movie's October 2027 release date. Going by the information provided, The Batman Part II will begin shooting approximately two months sooner than originally expected, which is too short of a difference to significantly affect a release strategy.

Glasgow also doubled as Bruce Wayne's signature city in The Batman. In fact, the city was pivotal in achieving the look Matt Reeves wanted for the film. Speaking to BBC Scotland's The Edit in 2022, the director explained why Glasgow was the ideal setting to bring Batman's home to life:

"One of the things that was really important, I wanted this to feel like a Gothic American city, but one that you'd never been to. And so the way to do that was to choose beautiful Gothic architecture and so we went to Glasgow and honestly it was so beautiful, I wish we could've filmed there more. I really think it's a very special Gotham, I mean what a special place."

When asked if the Caped Crusader could return to the city, Reeves teased: "Get ready, yes. It could very well be that we'll be coming back to your neighborhood soon." It seems Reeves will deliver on his promise.

The Batman Part II arrives in theaters on October 1, 2027.

What do you think about The Batman Part II possibly filming earlier than expected? Drop your thoughts in the comments!

This movie is a DOA. The parody known as The Batman is NOT worth the 5 year wait for a sequel and the GA knows this.

Reboot the MCU and DCU

@WalletsClosed - Totally fine that you're not excited for it, but I'll remind you, the first movie was a massive hit with both, critics and general audiences. The reason people were upset with the long wait for this new one is exactly because they're excited for it. With the track record he has from Cloverfield all the way through The Batman, Matt Reeves has become one of the most respected genre filmmakers of our time and without speaking for others, I'm really looking forward to see what he does with this sequel. Calling it DOA feels a bit hyperbolic, to say the least.

@WalletsClosed - Another ringer, Boss! This movie will be a total flop both comercially and critically, just like the first one! This barely even qualifies as a parody! Everyone knows they paid off the Acadamy Awards to get those nominations! And the Green Arrow knows this!

Unboot the DCU

@Patient2670 - Matt Reeves is the king of putting out generic films. His Apes movies were blah and The Batman was an over-long, over-clustered mess of a film that had no fantastical elements related to his Batman.

Hard pass.

Not surprising since I’m pretty sure they used those locations in the first film aswell but still good to hear since their gothic architecture helped create the beautiful look of that film imo.

Anyway , can’t wait to see this film since I was a big fan of the first one aswell as The Penguin!!.

@TheyDont - absolutely. Batman Begins is the BEST Batman movie ever. The Dark Knight was an epically awesome crime boss film with an epic performance by Ledger that just happened to have Batman in it.

Oh, and The Batman is like 7th down the list after Adam West's Batman.

Anyone here ever read Infinite Crisis? The villain is Superboy-Prime. He's a young version of Superman who was stunted physically and emotionally. He wants to put things back to how they were before the reboot of Crisis on Infinite Earths because he thinks things were way better back then, and he doesn't care how much chaos he has to sow in order to undo things and set them back to how they were before the reboot. He's awkward and a loser and has absolutely no self awareness.

I've been reminded of that story a lot lately.

@InfinitePunches - Funny you mention that, because I remember when that story happened and he carved that S into his chest, is the very beginning for when people wanted a more darker and mature Superman. And MOS was the response...a bit...overly exaggerated but yeah.

@WalletsOpen - In the comics, he eventually got a redemption arc. He’s still a dummy, but at least now he’s likable. He was actually in today’s issue of Superman. So I think there’s still hope for… anyone.

@InfinitePunches - Superboy Prime is the single most powerful being in the DC Universe. More than Darkseid, Constantine, Spectre, any magical being, any other Superhero.

The only one maybe more deadly and powerful would be Mister Mxyzptlk. Infinite power on any level.

@InfinitePunches - There is one out there that I don’t have any hope for redemption, but in your profession I guess you have to hold out for everybody right? I do for the most part in the work that I do, but there is at least one out there that I don’t believe is ever going to make a redemption move.

@InfinitePunches - I absolutely do believe in people changing or bettering themselves, but personality disorders are locked in. People can make changes even within that but the problem with the person I’m talking about, narcissist and sociopaths don’t think they need to make any changes and that they are just fine, which is part of the problem

I wish WB would direct the resources and energy for this film toward the DCU batman and move on from this.

I didn't like The Batman. Pattison is a good actor but a poor Bats and a very awful Bruce. He didn't have the presence, physicality, intensity or voice. The film overall felt like a Nolan-lite production. I can watch the real Nolan trilogy for an excellent set of grounded batman films.

But on the other hand, WB knows this will likely make bank (as long as they don't screw it up like the second Joker film). So it's understandable why they would do this.

@Irregular - Correct....the dude said on a podcast a year or two ago that he always viewed Batman and his son as Hit girl and her dad and thought that would make a great Batman movie meaning Kickass. You'll 100% see Gunn do a Batman movie with Batman Forever and Kickass merged together.
