In WandaVision, we learned that Monica Rambeau held a lot of resentment towards Carol Danvers for breaking her promise to return after the events of Captain Marvel, and following a strained reunion in The Marvels, we find out exactly why Danvers stayed out of "Lieutenant Trouble's" life for so many years.

Initially, Danvers tells Rambeau that she simply couldn't return because she was needed in so many other regions of the galaxy, and later on, we find out that Carol did visit the dying Maria Rambeau while her daughter was "Blipped." However, it's not until the final act that the truth comes out.
It turns out that when Captain Marvel destroyed the Supreme Intelligence in the first movie, she inadvertently caused catastrophic damage to the Kree home world of Hala, leaving the planet without a sun and sending Dar-Benn on her mission to seek vengeance on "The Annihilator." Danvers felt such immense guilt for her actions that she decided she couldn't face Monica again until she found a way to make things right.
Monica forgives her "Aunty Carol" and the two reconcile, with Danvers using her super-charged abilities to reignite Hala's sun and find redemption. Unfortunately, the two are soon separated again when Rambeau repairs the rift created by Dar-Benn and becomes trapped in an alternate reality (more here).
"The Marvels is far from the best Marvel Studios has to offer, but it's difficult not to get swept up in its infectious energy... to a point," we said in our review. "A disjointed third act lets it down, but a game cast and plenty of fun/funny moments elevate it above more lacklustre MCU fare (we're looking at you, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumnia)."

The film also stars Zawe Ashton and Park Seo-joon. Nia DaCosta directs, and Kevin Feige is the producer. Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Mary Livanos and Matthew Jenkins serve as executive producers. The screenplay is by Megan McDonnell, Nia DaCosta, Elissa Karasik and Zeb Wells.
The Marvels will begin its international rollout on November 8, and was recently granted a China release on November 10, day-and-date with North America.
