Possible New Details Revealed For LANTERNS And WALLER As Production Ramps Up On First DCU TV Shows

While we're taking these with a pinch of salt for now, some new details appear to have found their way online which reveal more about the creative teams working on upcoming DCU shows Waller and Lanterns.

While we know better than to put too much stock into Production Weekly listings, they have been a source of reliable information in the past and may now shed new light on DC Studios' small screen plans.

The animated Creature Commandos is set to premiere on Max later this year, offering a glimpse at what the DCU has in store for us. However, on the live-action front, we expect Waller, Lanterns, and Peacemaker season 2 to lead the change.

The former was once eyeing a 2024 launch, only to get caught up in last year's WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes. According to The Trail Blazer, Production Weekly has tapped Chris Provenzano (Justified) as a producer alongside showrunners Christal Henry and Jeremy Carver. Viola Davis, who plays Amanda Waller, will also produce through JuVee Productions. Lars P. Winther (Guardians of the Galaxy) is listed as a co-producer.

It's looking like casting director John Papsidera (Superman: Legacy) will be the DCU's Sarah Finn as he's also named on Waller. As for the show's logline, it reads:

"A live action series, the spinoff of Peacemaker, centered around Amanda Waller and her relationship with her daughter, Leota. If there's one government bureaucrat who shouldn't be messed with, it’s Amanda Waller, founder of the infamous Task Force X, better known as the Suicide Squad."

In Peacemaker, Loeta Adebayo was portrayed by Danielle Brooks.

We also have an update on Lanterns. Damon Lindelof is now listed as a producer after rumours swirled he might be shaping Green Lantern's live-action return alongside comic book writer Tom King, while Chris Mundy (True Detective) appears to have been "confirmed" as showrunner.

All signs seem to point to Nathan Fillion reprising his Superman: Legacy role as Green Lantern Guy Gardner, though Gunn has previously alluded to that being the case on social media. Interestingly, Lanterns is described as "terrestrial-based," suggesting the action will largely play out here on Earth. That should cut the budget down!

Time will tell how much of this proves correct and, with any luck, Gunn will chime in on Threads to clear things up if there is any confusion. The DCU slate was announced over a year ago but thanks to the aforementioned strikes, only a few projects have really started taking shape.

Superman: Legacy begins shooting next month and we expect Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow to be next, likely for a 2026 release. There's been little in the way of movement on other DCU movies, so we could be looking at just one big screen outing a year for the time being.

Stay tuned for updates.
