A rumor recently did the rounds that Michael Giacchino was in line to helm Marvel's upcoming Disney+ Halloween Special, and we now have confirmation that the renowned The Batman composer will indeed make his directorial debut with the hour-long project.

Though the special will likely focus on the Werewolf character, Werewolf By Night is not expected to be the official title.

Gael Garcia Bernal is set to play the lead, with Laura Donnelly on board in a mysterious supporting role. There's a lot of speculation that she'll be playing Nina Price, aka Vampire by Night, but that's yet to be confirmed.

The Werewolf by Night mantle has been held by two characters in the comics. The first, and arguably better-known, is Jack Russel, who debuted in the pages of Marvel Spotlight in the early '70s. More recently, a teen of Hopi and Mexican descent named Jake Gomez was introduced as a new take on the lycanthropic antihero. It's not clear which Werewolf Bernal will play, but it could end up being an amalgamation of the two or a completely new character.

Giacchino has composed the scores for numerous comic book movies over the years, and his work can be heard next in Jurassic World: Dominion and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

Production on the special is scheduled to get underway later this month in Atlanta.
