Spider-Man: Brand New Day Overtakes Ne Zha 2 Worldwide And Is Eyeing Another Amazing Box Office Record

Spider-Man: Brand New Day has reached $2.3 billion at the worldwide box office, but back in North America, the movie is mere days away from breaking yet another long-standing record.

By JoshWilding - Aug 29, 2026 12:08 PM EST

Spider-Man: Brand New Day grossed $5.5 million on Friday ahead of an estimated $22 million during its fifth weekend in U.S. theaters. It's now the first film to "fivepeat" since Avatar: Fire and Ash. Can it make it six? That's looking increasingly likely.

By Sunday, the Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures co-production will be just $9 million away from $900 million. That puts it on track to reach that benchmark a day or two later, meaning it will easily become the fastest movie to reach that number in box office history.

With that, Spider-Man: Brand New Day has grossed $2.3 billion worldwide, overtaking Ne Zha 2 ($2.270 billion) for fourth place. Avatar: The Way of Water ($2.334 billion) is up next, and the blockbuster will now likely end its run as the third-biggest movie ever.

Elsewhere at the box office, Coyote vs. ACME—which has been awarded an A CinemaScore—is eyeing third place behind The Odyssey with a $14 million start. It's nipping at the heels of the Christopher Nolan movie, though, and if families turn up, then it should gross $15 million (surpassing the fantasy epic's expected $14.6 million weekend).

According to RelishMix (via Deadline), "What’s obviously missing on this film is the social heft of a major studio, which would drive reach and engagement — as the film lines-up with stats like an indy platform release."

However, "conversation runs positive for Coyote vs. Acme, with audiences treating the film less like another release and more like a long-overdue rescue mission. The campaign benefits from years of pent-up goodwill, creating an unusually passionate community that wants to reward the movie simply for surviving."

Ridley Scott's latest movie, The Dog Stars, is a critical and commercial flop. Audiences have given it a C+ CinemaScore, and it's kicking its run off with a mere $8 million in fifth place.

In Spider-Man: Brand New Day, it's a Brand New Day for Peter Parker. Fighting crime full-time as Spider-Man in a world that doesn’t remember him—and the pressure of seeing his old friends move on without him—sparks a change in Peter he may not have the power to control.

But that transformation might also be the only thing that can stop a shocking new threat to the city and those he loves - a powerful villain no one can even see. The world may have forgotten Peter Parker, but he hasn’t forgotten them.

In our review, we concluded by saying, "Spider-Man: Brand New Day is everything fans could want. Emotional, hilarious, and heartfelt, it’s an action-packed love letter to the comics and one of Spidey’s best big-screen adventures. Spider-Man has never been more amazing."

Spider-Man: Brand New Day is now playing in theaters.

I approve. But Ne Zha 2 still trumps all American superhero movies in quality.

Your hard-on for this movie almost rivals that of @FireGunn for Snyder.

Almost.

@TemporarilyHere - have you seen it? The third act is one of the most jaw dropping epic displays of CGI I've ever seen

@bobevanz -

I have. The entire movie is impeccably made, but the narrative requires a ton of prior knowledge in regards to chinese lore, of which the movie only discloses only a small part through exposition.

It's a great movie. But the rallying behind it is incredibly manufactured when its animation (again, as impeccably crafted as it is) can be described technically as no different than Pixar's or Dreamworks' highest standard.

Flow was better. PIB2 was better. Both Spider-Verses are better. But you see no such forced marketing behind any of those.

@1stDalek - as a huge Looney Tunes millennial I absolutely loved every second. Plus the Roger Rabbit vibes make it peak. Best comedy of the year with minimal competition

I hope Ne Zha falls more and more over time, it's an anomaly since only Chinese watched it. Doomsday and Secret Wars are certainly making it drop two more spots.

I liked BRAND NEW DAY. And will further state that in my opinion, ALL the Spider-Man movies of the MCU have been quality entertainment. But, it does boggle my brain a little that it is currently rampaging at the Box-Office to contend with the biggest money-makers of all time. It has next to zero re-watchability for me personally. I just don't get the wild record breaking success of it. 🤨

@SuperiorHeckler - too much slop nowadays, so when something half decent comes along every one is up for second helpings.

Sweet…

I honestly think BND could be no 1 domestically for the next 2 weeks aswell since I doubt By Any Means , Onslaught , The Uprising & Practical Magic 2 amongst some others will do much if anything to dethrone Spidey until Resident Evil comes out on the 18th but we’ll see.

Anyway , it ending its run as the 3rd highest grossing movie of all time is nuts but it’s quite a good movie so well deserved!!.

It's Spider-Man 2 for gen Z and that's fine. Easily his best movie aside from Homecoming.

Where's the [frick]ing Batman Knightfall review?
